Man jailed after he was found living with woman's corpse in trailer in Detroit
Irish American man arrested for mutilations of his girlfriend’s mummified body believed to have been dead for six months
Dennis McCauley (64) was arrested at his Detroit-area trailer home when court officers discovered his 72-year-old wife’s corpse decomposing on their couch. Officers were on the scene to serve an eviction notice.
Redford Township police Sgt. Kevin Crittenden said, “The officer noted a pungent smell of decay and observed a corpse in the room immediately to the right of the front door.
“He called us. The corpse had obviously been deceased for some time and was partially dried out."
It’s believed that McCauley had lived with the corpse of Ann Marquis at his trailer at Long's Mobile Home Court in Redford Township, west of Detroit, for about six months, the Associated Press report.
Crittenden told the press that McCauley insisted he had not killed Marquis. The officer said primary results indicate that she died of natural causes.
The trailer, and the eviction notice, were in her name.
The officer said, “We know they lived together about three years.
“Based on witness statements and other statements it would appear Ann Marquis died sometime in November."
McCauley was arrested for failing to report her death, mutilation of a corpse, larceny, uttering and publishing involving social security checks, identity theft and other charges.
Crittenden added, “When we found the body, the upper arm was separated from the right shoulder.” This injury took place after death.
McCauley was held at Wayne County Jail on $250,000.
