Veteran journalist died from a blow to the head in botched robbery

Murdered Irish journalist Eugene Moloney

A 21-year-old man has been charged with the manslaughter of Eugene Moloney, a former reporter with the Irish Independent and previously the Irish News.

The 55-year-old journalist, well known for his coverage of “The Troubles”, suffered a blow to the head during, what was believed to be, a botched mugging, which took place near the journalists home on Camden Street, in the city center.

The attack took place in the early hours of Sunday morning. Moloney, who lived in Portabello Place, received medical attention at the scene and was brought to St James’s Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

On Monday morning, Gary Burch, of Kennington Close, Templeogue, was detained by police. On Tuesday he was brought before Dublin District Court charged with the manslaughter of Moloney.
Garda Sergeant Sean McAvinchey told Judge Victor Blake that when his charges were read to Burch he “made no reply”, reports RTE.

His lawyer, Michael Bowman, said his client has not yet indicated how would plead. No application for bail was made.

Moloney, originally from Donegal, had previously worked with the Irish News in Belfast in the 1970s. Later he relocated to Dublin where he worked for the Independent newspapers for over 20 years.

Ah right George, so we are still blaming migrants for these crimes? So its all migrants in the US and Ireland who break the laws, yeah? Righto, Im glad we got that sorted. Remember, it was YOU who brought migrants into this conversation NOT me. I dont need to read your posts George as I already know whats in them! Nothing that happens in Ireland affects you or concerns you so maybe you should focus on your own country and stop getting upset over what happens in mine. Youve already said you dont like Ireland, the Irish or migrants who live here so just stay home! Its not rocket science! If you dont like Ireland, dont visit!

Ciara: I know you're ignorant and uninformed, but do you mean to tell us that you didn't know that fully one third of inmates of Irish jails are foreign migrants? Why don't you spend more time reading and less time posting? But actually, your reading needs improved also. Are you so stupid that you misread my post and thought that I blamed foreign migrants for this killing? You are an utter fool, aren't you?

Ah george, why did you change your log in name? Im sure the crime rate would be lower in the US if your family didnt migrate there too. As a population increases so does crime. Do you not understand that? Maybe you should do the maths there. So our crime rate would decrease by 30% if our migrants left? i reckon the crime rate in the US would decrease by about 95% if migrants and their spawn left. That would include you! This poor man was murdered by a 21 year old from a middle class area but I suppose somehow migrants were indirectly involved? maybe they work in the pub that sold him a pint or maybe they drove the bus that brought him into town that night? yep, it was definitely the migrants who killed this man. Shame on them. George, you really are hilarious!

Like so many Irish, Ciarabythebay loves to ape the United States. In this case she figures since the US has lots of murders Ireland is entitled to have lots of murders too. Murder is so modern! But where Ciara is really out in left field is in her unthinking kneejerk obsession with Mass Immigration. Irish people, unlike Ciara, realize that a lot of the crime in Ireland is perpetrated by foreign migrants. One inmate in three in Irish prisons is a foreign migrant. Ireland would still have its native street thugs, muggers and murderers but the country could lower its crime rate by 30% if it didn't have foreigners arriving as settlers.

Wounded George, Joe Duffy appeals to the lowest common denominator. Every irish person knows that, even the people who ring up! That radio show is well known for being a joke! Come to think of it, its probably right up your street!Check out 'the savage eye joe duffy' on youtube and you'll see what Im talking about. I hear a little girl was found in a closet there recently,a teacher and students were arrested for 'hzing' in CA,a plane flew a swastika banner over NJ,tourists were shot in Florida and a homeless man had his face eaten, while a woman high on bath salts beat her kid up in the street! Yikes, I dunno if the US is the safest bet for a holiday either! Ooo AND an old lady was bullied by school kids on a bus! I'll make you a deal, you dont ever come here again and I'll throw a party to celebrate! I'll invite people from all over the world who now live here and who, just like you, have Irish passports!

Folks who can listen to Irish Radio online should have a listen to the Joe Duffy Show, at around 9 a.m EST. For the past few days it's offered a litany of testimonies of disgusting mindless violence in Ireland, involving kicks to the head, girls having their noses bitten off in fights, people getting head butted in the face etc. etc. It sure has turned me off going over there this summer. Bad enough to have to pay the current high fares to Ireland, but what's the point in paying all that money just to go to a nation of drunken and drugged thugs.
