The Irish Star on Sunday has ceased publication. Staff were told this morning in a meeting at Dundrum headquarters in Dublin. It is understood that redundancies were offered to staff.
The closure of the newspaper sees 17 permanent staff losing their jobs.
The Sunday newspaper did not record a profit since it was established in 2003 and last year lost over €1 million. It was projected to lose more in 2011.
One Star on Sunday writer told IrishCentral that "it's a sad day for Irish journalism".
It was announced at a meeting this morning that The Irish Daily Star has not been affected. One Daily Star journalist told Irish Central: “Thank God we’re not affected by this”.
