I think they should fly the flagh of Ulster in Northern Ireland. Ulster also includes three counties that are a part of the Republic, for example Donegal, but maybe Northern Ireland should use neither the Union Jack nor the Tricolour. When can these fiercely conservative people of Northern Ireland to learn to live in peace! I think it is disgusting!
My people are both Irish Catholics and Scottish Protestants. I left the repressive Catholic church to become an Episcopalian (Anglo-Catholic) though I was disowned by my sister and mother. FIghting over ethnicity and religion is stupid. People of Northern Ireland need to grow up!

Both sides---back off for a few days. Fly whatever flags you choose from you homes. There will always be two flags in the north . What a dream if they can become a sign of coalition instead of division.

Leahkinsella, it's 9 counties. But your slip does highlight the ridiculous nature of "Northern Ireland" and a province (Ulster) which is artificially split between two "countries."

It is unfortunate that NI has been thrown back into a state of anarchy over the flying of the Union flag at City Hall. Everyone knows that the City is within the UK and it should have the same rights as the rest. That SF would propose such a motion to appeal to its harder line is understandable, but for Alliance to make into law was a huge bluder. Maybe the ROI, as a signatory to the Belfast Agreement, can reciprocate and restrict the flying of the Tricolor to certain days at Leinster House. I hardly think so.

Bobby: Ulster has only 6 counties. The other 26 belong to the Irish Republic. Get the Geography right! I agree with Sevenstar, we have enough problems of our own in the Irish Republic. People in Northern Ireland need to sort their own problems out.

I think the Pat Kenny show on Radio 1 this morning mirrors what alot of us Irish people feel over here apart from the IRA supporters and troublemakers... Northern Ireland is British and they should be allowed to fly their flag... Most of us dont care about Northern Ireland as we have enough problems running the south.. We need to Focus on the Hugh influx of Blacks, Muslims, polish and eastern Europeans coming in here which is changing the face of Ireland beyond recognition... You only need to read local papers to see the names of the people up in our courts ever week for drugs people trafficing drink driving and robberies...

Perhaps the so-called Unionist politicians could re-leaflet the Loyalist strongholds and urge Loyalists to stop breaking the law! Afterall, it was the DUP and UUP who stirred the Loyalist demonstrations up in the first place (according to Justice Minister David Forde). Demonstrations led by Loyalist paramilitaries (in spite of so-called ceasefire) according to the PSNI chief Baggot and the deputy chief of the PSNI. It is time to put the blame where it belongs. Rioters are not practicing democratic traditions or values!
