Sounds like he has an interesting life and has had to make some tough decisions.

This weird tale of English occupation of even a remote outcrop of the shamrocky moss-bank takes some understanding. His wife and daughter only endured for two of the twenty years so he can't claim to be close to them. It is more likely that at seventy he has become concerned for his health. He blames inadequate Broadband connection, but it is more likely his pencil ran out of lead ...and his sheep just lost interest ...

I think it's wonderful.

He wants to come back to civilization? He can always go back to Inishfree after visiting his family.

Why didn't he migrate back to the real mainland - ie Ireland?

he must be mad,he will be mugged within 20 minutes of walking out,no nagging,no politicoes,no bad news,no banking crisis,poll tax,car tax,council tax,parking fines,etc etc.no nooky either which is a downer.still.?almost worth it.
