The 'Save Lennox' campaign isn't over yet; friends of the pit-bull look-alike executed in Belfast under a law prohibiting dangerous dog breeds now battle to have the dog's ashes and effects returned to his human family.
The dog's owner, Caroline Barnes, has written to the city council requesting the return of his remains, the Belfast Telegraph reported.
“It is very clear that you wish to prolong the hurt you have already caused my family," she wrote in the letter.
But according to the city council, the remains are up to Ms Barnes to collect whenever she wishes, and have been languishing in the council's care in the meantime.
“The council confirmed to Ms Barnes’ solicitor on July 18, that the collar, lead and muzzle were no longer held by the council," a Belfast City Council spokeswoman told the Telegraph.
“In relation to the ashes, the council confirmed to Ms Barnes’ solicitor that the ashes could be released to Ms Barnes a number of weeks ago. The council are still awaiting a response.”

No dog is ever born viscious or aggressive..FACT for all you ppl who think otherwise, that is sheer ignorance...Aggression never came into lennox's case until BCC realised they had taken an INNOCENT dog and thought they'd better LIE to try and safe face...well BCC hope you are proud..you have made yourselves look like incompetent fools who do not have a clue about what a dangerous dog is...Lennox never was and still isnt a danger but who is,is the people who blatently abused and eventualy killed an innocent dog for their sheer gratification....BCC will have to answer for all their wrong doings in this case and others and believe me it wont be pretty reading..so all you people who say its just a dog...get a life you clearly have never owned an animal/dog and if you do ...i feel very sorry for it living with someone who clearly does not care that an INNOCENT dog was forcibly removed from a loving family and kept in the most disgusting of conditions and abused(probably as a punch bag for some physco)for over 2 yrs...this is not about anything other than the way lennox looked and he paid the ultimate price for the corruption and ignorance of BCC and this will NEVER be forgiven..disgusting...

It has been a month since Lennox "official" death-we all have our doubts about that. Now BCC says oh, sorry, we have had your dogs ashes since July 18th-come and get them-it is just a miscommunication. If you believe that, I have a bridge I can sell you. What did they do with his "personal effects" (collar, etc.)? They were in the BCC possession when Lennox was so gently taken from his home. Face it, when Lennox was taken from his home he ceased to be a family dog in the eyes of the BCC and just became a piece of meat. A month out and it seems that no investigation will be forthcoming by the NI government. Let sleeping dogs lie (Please pardon the pun). No justice for Lennox or closure for the Barnes family. But Wait! The great animal "expert" Peter Tallack's reputation lays in shreds; Lightfoot has been branded a liar and perjurer, the dogwarden's office credibility ranks right up there with the gestapo, and BCC has become the poster child for vindictive, autocratic, heartless bureaucracy at its worst. Hope that gives the Barnes family some measure of satisfaction. The Lennox Legacy lives on!

Go raibh maith agat, cillowen. If Belfast City Council wants to protect its citizens from dangerous animals, it is certainly their right.

These cold blooded creeps on the BCC have put the Barnes family through hell. The had the effrontery to tell them they would MAIL them Lennox' ashes. NOW they insist Mrs. Barnes come to the scene of his murder to pick them up, placing all the blame on her. Not one of these 'people' have an ounce of conscience, and yes, they are STILL going out of their way to torment this poor family.

Who the hell is going to believe the city council after what they put that poor family and their dog through....

The fact that the family was not allowed to visit Lennox during his two year confinement prior to his murder (and yes it was murder) leads me to believe that Lennox was probable executed shortly after his confinement.

THIS ENTIRE STORY AND WHAT WAS ALLOWED TO HAPPEN IS A DISGRACE AND THE CITY COUNCIL SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF THEMSELVES. BREED SPECIFIC LEGISLATION FOR ANY REASON IS MEDEVIL IN IT'S THINKING AND LACKS INTELLIGENCE AND EDUCATION ON THE PART OF THE HUMAN BEINGS THAT IMPLEMENT IT!!
