Republican representative Kevin McCarthy said on Sunday that he believes there is enough support in the GOP controlled House to pass comprehensive immigration reform.

"I wouldn't underestimate the House's ability to pass the immigration bill," McCarthy said on CNN's ‘State of the Union.’

"I think we have plenty of ideas on that, and I think there's an opportunity that we can move the ball as well."

McCarthy is currently the third-highest ranked Republican in the House.

While on ‘State of the Union,’ McCarthy didn’t clarify whether or not GOP support would extend to legislation that would help undocumented citizens become legal. This facet is a core provision on the Democratic side, but has been rejected by many Republicans.

The Huffington Post
points out that McCarthy’s comments on Sunday are significant, especially in his position as the House Majority Whip which makes him responsible for rounding up enough votes in his Conference to pass bills.

Currently it has been agreed that Senate will move first on immigration reform, and if a bill can pass there, it will head to the House.

When asked on Sunday's show if House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) is prepared to bring a Senate-passed immigration bill to the House floor, even if it meant passing it without a majority of Republicans, McCarthy suggested that the House and Senate may end up in a conference committee hashing out two different immigration bills.

"The speaker has talked about [how] it's better if the House does their work. We should be sending bills to the Senate. It's better if the House works the way it's designed, where the House passes a bill ... and the Senate passes a bill and then it goes to conference," McCarthy said.

"He'll pass bills that Republicans are moving forward."

Seanmor knows the language qualifications of all those entering the USA. His Fox hymn book serves him well.
'Leading Irish American Republican Kevin McCarthy'.... HIS NOT IRISH HIS AMEICAN ..HE WAS BORN IN AMERICA .. WHAT IS ALL THIS AMERICAN NON SCENSE ABOUT ... IF I WAS A FRENCH OR A GERMAN MAN READING THIS .. WE'D AUTOMATICALLY THINK THIS MAN WAS BORN IN IRELAND THATS HOW WE WORK IT OVER HERE IN EUROPE.. SO PLEASE STOP CALLING THESE PEOPLE IRISH WHEN THEY ARE AMERICAN.. THEY MAY BE OF IRISH DECENT BUT THEY ARE STILL AMERICAN..
Immigration reformers should make a very clear distnction between the 2 main categories of undocumented immigrants in the U.S. One grounp entered the country ILLEGALLY,apeak little or no English, show no interest in assimilating, don't pay any taxes and avail themselves of government hand-outs, the others come here on visitors' visas, are very fluent in English, have much to contribute to the nation, do nor recieve free benefit and are eager to assimilate.
At last a republican with commonsense facing up to the realities of the immigration problem. The facts are less immigrants are crossing the border now (under Obama) than under Bush.
"Irish-American"? At McCarthy's Wikipedia page there is little indication of his background other than that he's Baptist. No mention of an Irish heritage. ......................................... If Americans who have a Gaelic or otherwise Irish-sounding name are automatically of Irish extraction, then does that mean that those without Irish type names are excluded?
I think it stinks.I dont like amnesty for ILLEGALs it just gives others more incentive to come here illegally. Not one bill has addressed securing the border. They are just whistling in the wind to do it the wrong way around.
McCarthy- this Nation is not yours to give away to illegal, criminal, aliens- even if they are Irish. Just another politician that has no respeect for the rule of law. Becareful, McCarthy, or you will experience an unanticipated blow back from law abiding citizen- if you betray them.
BEWARE of Congressional Republicans who "" think we have plenty of ideas on that", It just means that they're trying to screw us ...again!
So, the Republican controlled House of Representatives will pass the pathway to citizenship for undocumented residents in the US according to Republican strategist McCarthy? Fascinating. Hope Kerry O'Shea has this right.
