The mother of Irish kidnap victim Sharon Commins is praying for her release.

Speaking from the family's home in Clontarf, Agatha Commins said: "We're just hoping and praying that she will be safe. We've heard absolutely nothing about her situation, but we've been told the Irish Government jet flew out there and the best people in the country were on it."

Ms Commins, 32, and Ugandan aid worker Hilda Kawuki, 40, were kidnapped on Friday after eight armed men invaded their compound in Darfur.

"We're trusting in the Irish Government and GOAL. We're all absolutely worn out. We're trying hard to keep our stamina up because we need to keep strong for Sharon.

"We keep praying for her and all the Masses have been for Sharon.

"Sharon is such a kind girl and so generous. She'd never look for praise for anything," said the devastated mother.

An Irish Government team is in the Sudan including experts in hostage negotiations.
