Sources close to Joseph P. Kennedy III suggest it is “looking more and more like” he will run for Congress this year.
Kennedy (31) is the grandson of the late Senator Robert F. Kennedy and son of the former U.S. Rep. Joseph P. Kennedy II. A graduate of Harvard Law School, he works in the Middlesex District Attorney's Office as a prosecutor.
Sources close to the Kennedy family told Rhode Island public radio that the Kennedy family have been organizing fund-raisers and that Kennedy “will have something more to say about his plans within a week or so”.

He may took to run for the seat left open by the retirement of Barney Frank.
Speaking about a potential bid for Congress, Kennedy, the scion of the Kennedy clan, told the Boston Globe in November, “I haven’t had an opportunity to give it a whole lot of thought, but I will give it some thought in the coming days and weeks.’’
If he runs and wins Kennedy would put the family name back on the national political stage. Since the death of Teddy and the retirement of his son, Patrick, there has been no Kennedy in any national office for the first time since 1946.

Never ceases to amaze me how republics (like the USA and Ireland) replicate familial succession just like the monarchies they overthrew. But then, given the state of the nations in both jurisdictions, a little certainty is such a bad thing. And another Irish-American a la Catholic is long overdue in the American body politic.

Given that felons like the Buddy Ciancis of the world are all that the Republican party has to offer America, Kennedy should be a shoo-in!

Anyone will be better than Frank. I'd like Buddy Cianci to move from R.I. to Mass and run.....just remembered Buddy had that stint at a Federally Funded Gated Community.

Just what we do not need

PatriciaMarya - I thought that we were now being plagued with one hundred eleven more Kennedys!

Small thing: Referring to the man's lineage, the editor correctly used 3 Roman numeral "ones" in the title and inside the story. However in the initial blurb on the website, the editor used 3 Arabic number "ones" to refer to his family placement. Does this media site have anyone who is the proofer or copy editor?

I'll be interested to hear what he has to say on the issues. We need another fearless liberal champion like Barney Frank in that seat to push back against the endless wars, civil rights abuses, and evangelical bullying that passes for good governance here in the USA. I'm just a little concerned that he won't be willing to go as far in advocating against the drug war as Frank did, for example. This is no time to let the Tea Party force their wingnut lunacy down the rest of our throats.

Just what the country needs, another socialist Kennedy of the 1% elite. They feel entitled to tell the rest of us how to live, while the act above the law.

Time for that bunch to give it a break. Try working for a refreshing change.

SeamusMor obviously does not know the history of the Kennedy thug clan. It started with Joe Kennedy making the Kennedy fortune running rum during Prohibition then sending an offer to the Japanese during WW2 to act as Governor of Hawaii under Japanese rule...then on to the womanizing, drug addiction, injuries and deaths caused to others...it does on and on. The only apparently decent Kennedy, JFK Jr., met a suspicious and untimely death.

JPK III is next chapter in the Kennedy saga of Triumph and Tragedy. After all, the Kennedys are very decent people, who have a long tradition of service to their country. As a Prosecutor, Mr. Kennedy has seen, up close and personal, what's wrong with this country, and as a Congressman, he will be in a position to do something about it. God bless him with the luck of the Irish!
DrSheilahere | Jan 04, 2012, 09:49 AM EST
Please don't. If we don't learn our history, we are bound to repeat it. The last thing this country needs is another Kennedy tragedy. Use your talents anywhere but in politics!
katieherk | Jan 04, 2012, 09:47 AM EST
Anything's better than Barney Frank!! But, if Joe III is anything like the rest of the Kennedys, save us!!!
irishcoffeekid | Jan 04, 2012, 07:50 AM EST
Good for him! If he's got what it takes, he will do fine! Let's face it he's not going to be any worse that the loola's out there in Capitol Hill already - might be nice to have someone fresh on the scene - the others are surely making a muck of it!!!
