A new poll in the Joe Kennedy 4th congressional race in Massachusetts shows the contest tightening with Republican contender Sean Bielat jumping twenty points to close the gap to 12 points behind Kennedy.

The poll, taken by conservative pollster On Message, showed that Kennedy, son of former Congressman Joe Junior and grandson of Robert Kennedy still had a handsome lead but that the gap had narrowed from the complete blow out of 60 to 28 percent that a Boston Herald poll showed in February.

Kennedy told The Herald he was not worried about any new poll.

“I’m just not focused on polls at all ... we’re focused on getting out around the district. We’ve done over 80 events across the district since the campaign started. We’re really focused on just getting out and meeting people, and that part’s been great, and we’re looking forward to doing more.”

Bielatt stated that Kennedy’s “name is his only commodity and that the new poll showed he was “more of a man and less of a myth.”

“The Kennedy name has high recognition in the district, but there has been a sharp deterioration in Kennedy numbers,” said Bielat,

“I can’t see how he does anything but go down from here as he becomes more of a man and less of a myth.”

Kennedy stated he would do nothing different.

“I’m looking forward to getting the chance to continue what we’ve been doing — just getting out across the district and meeting people. Meeting them on the street corners, I’ve been invited into their homes, kitchens, having cups of coffee, sitting down with them, getting to know what their real concerns are. And I think that’s what a campaign’s all about, and we’re doing it.”

John C. Berg, a political science professor at Suffolk University, said Bielat still has a tough job.

“The one thing about Joe Kennedy is he’s known — he’s going to start out strong. Bielat should be able to make up some, but whether that means he can keep on doing that and get the majority is another question,” said Berg.

Kennedy and Bielat,  are running to replace the retiring Barney Frank in the redrawn Fourth Congressional  district.

Of course, the importance of this race is highlighted by seanomelb. Is feidir linn.
LacarourSeanB, oh, I forgot to mention, "Please endeavor to get it right!!!"
LacarourSeanB, you are the one who is confused. Of course, you are right that Joe Jr died in WW2. However, Bobby (Joe's younger brother) named one of his sons Joseph P. Kennedy II. He was a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from 1984-1999. He had two sons, Joseph III and Matthew. Joe III is running for Congress his dad's and his uncle's (JFK) former seat. Joe III is the grandson of Bobby and Ethel Kennedy. All cleared up for you?
Come one Niall. The last article said the race had closed to within 10 percent. Now it's closed to 12 percent. Hire some proof readers please.
Who couldn't close the gap on this putz,he has no history ,is a typical Kennedy, and my dead granny could probably bet him!
cillowen......this piece is back for the re- hash.
BTB, I know this much better than you, don't doubt me. the only cahance for a little joe loss is if he talks more.
With the name Kennedy he is a shoe in. That is not a contest there has to be another name for it. Possibly a public announcement would better.
another kennedy on the public paroll. so? thats what they do.
Pasted from the above piece, the following is a point of order for James O'Shea:"...son of former Congressman Joe Junior and grandson of Robert Kennedy..." Now, how could Joe be "Junior" if Bobby is Joe's Dad? Answer: He can't. Joe Jr. was a Navy aviator killed over the English channel in WWII. Joe II is this fellow's dad. Journalism is a critically important endeavor. Please endeavor to get it right.
Joe and Elizabeth are a shoo in. 4 more years
When will a Kennedy go get a real private sector "non-government" job? When will one of them start a business, take a risk, meet a payroll, pay into social security, and have to operated under all the rules and regulations they are so quick to pass?
Brown didn't take the Democratic machine by surprise, the Democratic machine eg. Coakley thought the public would automatically vote for them. Wrong.
Massachusetts is lost, every homeless shelter and halfway house will be bussed in to vote for this dope, just like they did last election cycle. Scott Brown took the democratic machine by surprise, that won't happen with little joe. the republican will have to beat him by 10% just to be even.
Brown will probably be reelected to Teddy's old Senate seat too. Warren's claim of being of Native American descent is highly questionable!
