I am a little confused, regarding "blasphemy laws". If I publicly challenge Christ's and the Church's position, on human sexuality, can that get me in trouble, in Ireland? It certainly should not, as criticizing anything is a matter of free speech! I just saw the movie, "Malcolm X", for the 1st time-took it out of my library. When Malcolm was in jail, in his youth, he was confined to solitary confinement, for not reciting his prison number, to the C.O's. This was to last 2 weeks. At one point, a chaplain visits him, and speaks through the small opening into his dark cell. Malcolm tells the priest, "Jesus can kiss my ***"! Being confined like this, under such humiliating conditions, anyone could have had the same reaction, to Allah, Yaweh, etc. One feels that God, whoever he is, has abandoned him!
Irish Blasphemy Law? Gotta be kidding? I see the defenders of such a law are already at work on this page trying to deflect attention such as cillowen and MaxTiger. So what do we call this, Irish-Catholic Sharia?
If an ardent Catholic claims his/her churuch is, "the one, true and Apostolic Church" is he/she making a blasphemous comment towards all other religions?
fugget 'bout blowins - at home there be bigger fish to fry - like what to do about the young uns pulling plug on selves.
A Dark Age is indeed a upon us
You really shouldn't pay too much attention to what you read in the Irish Times.
