Islam convert says she was unable to wear hijab in Cork workplace

Just as she should have the right to wear what she wants/needs to wear to a job, the employer should also have the right to require that she adhere to the dress code. No one is wrong in this situation. I am surprised, though, that it wasn't made clear to her when she accepted the position that she would be unable to wear the hijab while at work.

(…more) The image is located on the wall of what was clearly once a cave behind the altar of the small church built there later, one which you can freely visit at opening hours by yourself or in company with others. It’s a portrait kind of image, showing a baby-faced teenage girl, with a dark blue head covering, leaning her head leftward towards the right side of the upright head of a baby closing onto her left cheek. The aged image is somewhat marred, a result of later-invading Islamists of Malta trying to scarab the image away - but is still clearly visible and discernible to all anyway today. The local history (Tradition) goes, fortunately for all of us today, that Christian locals of the time, hearing of Islamists attacking the image with their blades etc., all charged together into the cave, stopping the rest of the scrawling off and chasing the scrablers away. (…more) His Holy Mother, Mary, though, does have many painted images left behind, notably in Jerusalem, Istanbul and especially in a cave in Malta, said to have been painted by a contemporary of hers, St. Luke, when he and St. Paul stopped over in a cave there. Luke’s amateur hand painted and hand-planted image of Mother Mary & Child in the cave while they sheltered and whiled away their time there during a storm is there for all to see today. There’s a church now built around & outside the cave that has the image. I saw the image for myself, when I visited the cave and church - and Kojak-investigated and Kodak-photographed it... (more…)

But I’m *baaack* on esatdigi’s point - funny you should say that, digi… You’ve started a whole new thread under Ms. Tavourite’s experience. There’s no record of what Jesus looked like either (no Kodak silver-images or lollipop-detective Kojak kinds were around then). All the images you and all of us see of Him are painted by later artistic and mostly romantic imaginaries. Historians and anthropologists believe that He was probably just over 5’ tall, short curly hair and beard, most likely brown-eyed and brown-haired, that, at 33yrs old, He was fit, slim and trim from all His walking through the Land, colour and shape of normally-worn garments unknown but definitely wearing what would today look like (to Portia 777) a long dress, shaped by His day’s weavers, is known to have had holed-out, worn-out leather sandals throughout His life. Jacer who is the "eminent historian"? he may suit your version of history and yours only. One Imam does not make a religion Jacer,anecdotal comments are not evidential and carry no weight. As an atheist I follow no religion and I'm not swayed by mythological book.

Seano, giving info provided by an eminent historian on TV and speaking of one’s own experiences about a false religion is not bigotry, so pls don’t distort this discussion with false accusations of me. You are right - I’ve never had a discussion with an imam; I avoided imams the same way I avoided my parish priest growing up in Dublin. This reminds me of an incident witnessed by a work colleague that I heard of while in Riyadh. An imam walking down a street in Riyadh came upon a black lady sauntering along with her head and face uncovered. He lashed out at her with his whip (yes, they do carry whips) and screamed at her, whipping her again. The imam was a small guy but the black lady was very large and she turned on him, punched him in the face twice, knocking him to the ground and then kicked him, leaving him bleeding and groaning on the pavement. The story cropped up in diplomatic embassy chit-chat some weeks later where it emerged the lady was the wife of some African diplomat and escaped any punishment for counter-attacking the imam. Women like this lady Loreta should learn from this African lady and shun Islam completely.

No where in the Koran is the hijab said to be a requirement of the religion. In this ladies native eastern europe, the moslem women do not wear hijab. The Hijab is a national costume from parts of Asia & the middle east it is not a religious pre requisite . She could have worn any number of things the only religious instruction Islam imposes is to dress modestly Clearly Loreta( who should have a name of 1 of Mohammeds wifes) & Mr Horan no little or nothing of the "obligations of Islam" lets hope Dunnes lawyers are more clued up
