Irish women are developing a condition dubbed ‘Desperate Housewives syndrome’, where females develop eating disorders during their middle age.

According to the Irish Examiner, Irish women in their forties are dieting to keep as slim as Hollywood stars such as Jennifer Aniston, Eva Longoria, Julia Roberts, and J-Lo.

"It's about looking at a celebrity or model and seeing a way of life and thinking you have to look that way to get the man, the car and their life," Suzanne Horgan, Director of the Eating Disorder Resource Centre of Ireland, told the newspaper.

"People are caught up with them because there seems to be a pressure to stay slim and young-looking in your 40s."

Horgan says the Desperate Housewives syndrome is a growing trend in Ireland due to the pressure women feel to look like "something off the show".

"Marcia Cross even came out during the filming of the show and said she was always starving because she couldn’t eat because she had to be thin,” Horgan noted.

"There are also people like Madonna, who is very iconic, looking so young. People are caught up with them because there seems to be a pressure to stay slim and young-looking in your 40s.

Health specialists say middle-aged patients tend to suffer from low self-worth and anxiety.

"I think more women are becoming dissatisfied with how they look and rather than grow old with wisdom and grace, they are struggling with their body image in their 40s," Horgan said.

"Before it was mainly people from the age of 12 to 18 developing disorders like bulimia, but now it has gone to all ages," Horgan added.

Looks like the beginning of a great Friday night...> Boingggoingoingaboingga ! right to left>>>because the 2nd from left is the tallest ...She is wearing flat shoe's and still as tall as the blonde in 5 in. heals on the right. well i'll just take a dozen of each .
I weigh the same at 50 that I did at 20, not tru dieting I love my food, not tru exercise I hate it, but my gene pool is responsible. When younger I use to get upset because I had to buy my jeans in the kids dept as the stores didn't cater for skinnies. I have noticed with younger women here appearence has become very important, its sad that, when younger I didn't have the time or money, now I have more time and a bit more money I can't be bothered following all those mags on how I should look, I do what I am comfortable with, which mainly is jeans, howelse could I go the playground with my grandsons or bounce on their trampolene.
The cosmetic and fashion industry! Run largely by gay guys redesigning their castrating mothers, (from whom Daddy didn't de-oedipalse them). Imposing their aesthetic ideals onto future generations of impressionable females to distract the love objects they truly desire. A dic[k]tatorship of the inverted. And, as aware as I like to think I am, I desperately(?) need the phone number of that conspicuously salacious housewife in the centre of the photo - airbrushed or no! She stirs the juices of my loins at a very primitive level, and I dare not resist an opportunity of raising my kundalini. Ooohh! That I were that bar stool!
as I predicted, obesity today anorexia tommorrow.
Italiangirl.........Benvenuta! a breath of fresh air, just what we need on this site. Too many on here have their hairs crossed and in knots. It may be a cultural thing or maybe it is the Irish and the way they are.
italiagirl I salute your appreciation of your cuves, they do look sickly-I don't get the thin look-give me a woman with something to hold,I'll make her smile and I'll be bold!
Me,personally, being a straight American woman, I think a woman with curves is beautiful. I am 134 pnds. and I would be considered as obese by Hollywood standards, but I like the way I look in a bathing suit. I don't look like some stick. I am not perfect, but I am real. And by the way, most of these women's photos are airbrushed to make them look perfect when they are not.
You are comical, now you offer free advise, be careful you need a license to practice. There is no need to fret calling a spade a spade it is good for the soul. Do you think I stand a chance of catching up to you man!
89West, you even have sour comments for your own country!! Your unhappiness knows no bounds woman!
Maybe my peripheral vision isn't what is suppose to be, but compared to some of the sweat hogs roaming the streets here, one has to wonder how anyone can complain about the natural attributes of the Eireannach. For a starter, most have been blessed with great features, a pleasant disposition and a brain to go with all of that. Everyday grooming and fashion standards appear to be well above their counterparts found elsewhere and they continue this trend well beyond the mating years. The proof of the pudding is the beautiful children that can be found holding their hands.
If there is a multitude of skinny post 40 women in Ireland then I haven't noticed. I have observed many pudgy to heavy though. And that's not necessarily a bad thing. Just saying!
Meat is for the man, Bone is for the dog.
hollywood is zion, and zion is all about destroying the goddess, by supplanting the goddess with their ba'al. sex as commodity. they have been very successful too. who needs prisons and armies when you can get inside someones head and push all their buttons. these women let the monsters in. and hollywood is very persuasive, its glorification of money and of a lifestyle only a very small percentage can ever attain, but the hopelessness of it all is a siren song to many, it seems. these ladies would be better off at the beach, or in the woods hiking, or reading a book.
Last week America was blamed for making the Irish fat. This week we are causing Irish women to have eating disorders. We are unjustly blamed for all the ills in the world but I think Irish women are smart enough to get fat or skinny with no help from anyone.
Does anybody really care!
