I' emigrated to North America in 1984...legally ...Canada in '84 and here in the USA in '87 I complement the irish born woman for taking the time to tell of her very BAD experience. I was fortunate not to have been in such a stressful situation. she should be admired for sorting her life/situation out and moving on with no help from the guy who got her in that predicament in the first place. Her story is VERY relevant to the unfortunate situation of the Galway/Indian dentist
eiriamach wrote:"Though you do not want to hear this and probably will not believe it, Planned Parenthood provides more pro-life counseling and referrals for adoption than any other organization, including your Church!" I didn't know whether to laugh or cry when I read this. It is unbeliveable in this day and age of the internet that someone can make such an obnoxious even obscene statement like this. PP are the world's biggest provider of abortions. They make millions from aborting the unborn - it is not in their interest to let the unborn live, so why should they do it? DUH!!!! Why are there so many pro-life supporters and politicians against PP are you telling us they are ALL mistaken??? DUH!!! DUH!!! DUH!!!! Go get a life and stop supporting the taking of others.
Eiriamach, you paint a somewhat rosy picture of the PP's "pro-life" approach, which is starkly at odds with the real picture which tells us that this organization is the biggest procurer of abortions in the US as seen in the 300,000 they carried out in 2010. No doubt, they carry out activities in other "reproductive health" areas, but these are sidelines compared to the profits they make via abortions or contraceptives/abortifacients(35% of their business). So the figures on hand would tend to suggest that "pro-life" activities do not seem to be their "bag". You depict me as "fanatical" in my approach to respecting the life of the "unborn" and I'll take that as a compliment. I suppose you are not "fanatical" in your pursuit of the right to abortion when other more viable and moral solutions are on offer? Do you consider the fetus or embryo do have any rights. Is a woman's fertility a disease to be treated or a fetus a tumor to be cut out in the name of what is deceitfully called "reproductive healthcare"? Some doctors do use "termination" but it plays down to a great extent the violence done to the fetus or embryo and makes the whole process an anodyne and clinical appearance. As for your comment on the "fertilized ovum as a "baby" or "soul"..", there can be no biological doubt that this is conceived life which is fully human and contains the full genetic blue-print for that human to evolve. No amount of reducing the humanity of the ovum, fetus or embryo can absolve anyone of allowing that life to develop free from harmful interference(sometimes death can happen as an unintended consequence of saving the mother's life). During a woman's ovulatory cycle, there can be a high attrition rate for fertilized eggs as nature seeks to implant a successful one, but this does not mean that we deliberately prevent implantation by chemical or other means or destroy the fetus in the name of the "right to chose".
Gearoid, "pro-life counseling" IS widely available. Yhough you do not want to hear this and probably will not believe it, Planned Parenthood provides more pro-life counseling and referrals for adoption than any other organization, including your Church! And Planned Parenthood follows up with contraceptive counseling, sex education, and teaching about responsible reproduction. It's a broadly ethics- and values-based approach that values women's health, women's self-esteem, and women's lives as well as the quality of childhood and family life our nation can provide to its population. Nurturing in young women the realization that childbearing and child rearing are *choices* for them, choices for which they are ultimately responsible, rather than fates imposed upon them by law, nature, men, tradition, or religion, is the achievement of groups like Planned Parenthood. Yes, it is all about choice. Your fanatical focus on the "right to life" of the "unborn" depicts women as careless enemies of life and male religious officials as its defenders. What hooey! "Termination of pregnancy" and such phrases the usage of medical professionals; take your complaints about euphemism to the docs. But I don't think they'll listen any more than they listen to your talking about a fertilized ovum as a "baby" or a "soul," not when 50 to 70 percent of fertilized ova are discarded by women's bodies without ever implanting in a uterus and thus becoming what doctors can call a "pregnancy."
Try "terminating" your neighbor or someone on the street and see what happens to you!
@Eiriamach, There is a number of euphemisms that come to mind that the "pro-choice" crowd uses to try to make respectable the terrible atrocity that abortion is. Take for example the word "pro-choice"-it implies support for a whole series of options on the part of a woman who encounters some difficulties(psychological or physical) during a pregnancy. But what you find, is that this word usually comes down to one thing i.e the legislative push to make abortion widely available. The dissembling nature of this position is plain for all to see, if only people looked beneath the surface. Why not make pro-life counselling widely available then? This would be a viable option and should be favored by people who are genuinely supportive of a wide range of options. People hypocritically say that personally they are against abortion but "pro-choice", which states that "I'm personally against abortion but ok with someone who makes that choice". This is a cop-out and a betrayal of one's own personal convictions. The word "termination" is another euphemism which hides the grisly and macabre procedures which are implemented deliberately to destroy the life in the womb. If anyone was to view a video of an actual abortion they would see how weasel words like "termination" are misused to cover up this horrible reality up. Other euphemisms like "reproductive healthcare" to describe an abortion when in fact most take place for social reasons and the outcome is not too healthy for the fetus(grisly death) or even the psychological health of the mother.
JoeK - correction. US healthcare is unrivaled for it'a excellence and is in fact the best in the world. What you are referring to is socialized medicine, paid for by untenable high taxes on those who work for a living. Been to Cuba lately?? You would not want to live there....
Well not bashing you but the day will come when you will think of the little one that would have had held your hand and called you Mama....Sad...
Abortion is murder no matter what country you live in. Obama's pro abortion agenda, his evil record on voting against the born alive protection act is only strengthening the growing opposition to abortion in the U.S..I pray this woman, despite her tragic decision learns to value and protect every human life. To be pro life is the basis of all goodness in humanity. I suggest all you pro abortion advocates read the truth( not a sanitized version) about Margaret Sanger the founder of planned parenthood. Read about eugenics and the desire to eliminate all undersirables through abortion and other methods. You cannot separate the root from the fruit,Sanger's tree bears nothing but evil, pain and suffering.Abortion has never improved anyone's life while destroying millions.
I doubt the story is true because it is a well known Planned Parenthood story. Either way, having sex with guys is OK if that is your plan. So get the tubes tied. And enjoy your infertile life. Not being fertile is what you have become. Mentally and physically. It is a big joke for some. But, have you ever met a woman in her 50's who has had a few men too many? No children to comfort her as she gets old and wizened. As much as medicine as progressed, it has not turned off the clock of time. The only thing you become if you don't have children is a cheap trick for a guy who needs a free one. The worth of the of having a friend and soul mate to be at your side when you are old cannot be brought by a very used woman. When men want a woman to marry they will get a fresh one from another country. Abortions and one night stands will become your biggest secret that you keep from your mate because if he knows it he will dumb you. You will start giving huge gifts to any child that is in your immediate family or in your place of work because you don't have one. The loss of your life is keenly felt as the clock runs out. Every day the pain is felt and finally you desire your own death to remove the pain of being stupid when young.
I can't think of ONE reason why anybody would want a baby born in the USA! I can , however, think of one major reason NOT to have a baby born in the USA. Poor health care. She would have been better going to Cuba for ante natal treatment.
Gearoid, I don't know of any "euphemisms" put forward by pro-choice advocates, but it is surely clear to me that anti-choice advocates use plenty of dysphemisms, such as your words "pro-abort lobby." No one I've ever known of is pro-abortion--no one. But most people, including the majority of Catholics, believe that women should be able to choose (thus "pro-choice") at early stages whether to continue a pregnancy, at least a problem pregnancy that threatens life or that can result only in the birth of an infant fated to suffer and die without ever developing any capacity for human life as we know it. And the description "not a baby" is perfectly accurate; accurate descriptions are words like zygote, embryonic tissue, and fetus prior to birth, but not "baby." The mental image generated by the words "unborn baby" is a medical nightmare! (The poor suffering thing can't get out of the womb?) You do not endow embryonic or fetal life with the power of independent life when you label it "baby" or "child." You show only your refusal to deal with the facts of medical science and your willingness to substitute romantic fantasy for medical facts.
IC continues it's love affair with abortion stories. Gee, I wonder I'd there is a liberal agenda here?
@malpaso2001 The life that was cruelly aborted in the above story was fully human and was at an early transitional stage in his/her development. The trouble with language seems to be the distorting euphemistic use of it by the pro-abort lobby to dehumanize the fetus or embryo in order to desensitize the public to the terrible reality of what is going on in abortion. For example, when we hear such terms as a "bunch of cells" or "not a baby", we know that they are trying to shred the life in the womb of the last vestige of his/her humanity. But biological and spiritual truths should tell us otherwise. Jesus was very much an historical figure which contemporary historical sources of his time attest to. Reputable historians have no doubt that he existed on the basis of the strong evidence in the N.T given in the written first-hand accounts of the apostles and those historical extra-biblical sources. His spiritual legacy is still with us after 2000 years and He came to give life so that others may live it to the full. We should not dispose of life just because it becomes "inconvenient" for us.
I agree with Alisa, if those among you who are so pro-life want to rear a few kids, then I can point you in the right direction. The author never used the word "baby" because she wasnt having a baby, it was nothing close to being a baby. I do think she was a bit nieve about thinking she would be better received here on IC, this is America darlin, and Jesus rules the way...at least their interpatation of someone who may of may not have actually existed. And their in lies the problem, "beliefs" are just things we tell ourselves, they have no real basis in reality. And as I understand it if you choose to have an abortion you pay for it, unless youre extremely poor and cant afford it. I dont think this is the case with this young lady.
