Women in Ireland are among the most fertile in Europe, according to a new report.
The highest fertility rate in the EU in 2010 was in Ireland at 2.07, well above the EU average of 1.59, the report entitled Women and Men in Ireland 2011 published by the the Central Statistics Office (CSO) states.
The findings also show that women in Ireland are likely to be more highly educated than their male counterparts, but work fewer hours and earn less.
More than 50 percent of women aged between 25 and 35 have a college or university qualification compared with less than 40 percent of men.
Findings show that young men are more likely to drop out of school early and girls perform better at second level education. Despite this, women earn lower salaries and are less likely to be represented in politics.

Pittsburgh, you need to visit churches during mass times in Ireland and see that the numbers of your sacred irish catholic mother is on the decline! The numbers are getting smaller and smaller. If parents here raise their kids to be decent humanists then thats perfectly fine with me.

What do they mean by the most fertile? If you mean they are more receptive to getting pregnant. Then ye are talking sh*t.I'm not going to educate ye on facts. But I don't like the tone of the article.I don't think it's right that women should ever be measured by whose more fertile.I have 3.00 kids.Point zero 7 of a kid ain't much good.I'm not sure who is have those kids.Cathy get a job.

Irishgreeneyes, I was always told by my Grandmother that my great grandfather was a loving man. His parents were born and raised just outside of Galway. Having never had the chance to see him or my grandfather, I wanted to travel to YOUR beautiful country and see where they lived. I was always told that the Irish and the Scottish were kind, gentle, fun loving, very warm welcoming people. I met a young Irish woman about 3 years ago, here in the states. She was very sweet and gave me instructions on where I needed to go to see. When I got to your country, I was greeted by a kind man who helped me find what I needed to be on my way. Once I got to Galway, I was greeting with prideful, arrogant, insulting, American hating, Irish people, just like you! America has been kind to Ireland. Assisting in jobs, welcoming your wonderful heritage and enjoying the music that comes from your country, only to be slapped in the face by people like you. Maybe American should close the doors to Ireland? I had an overwhelming love of Ireland and her people, but now I am starting to question that because of you and others like you. Your pride will be the fall of your country. It happened to America.

Heather911, what is wrong is people like you! If any Irish swim acrossed the pond to bring back an American mate, if proves they are denying their own.

Well , Irishgreeneyes, Bless your little pea picking heart. I am a proud American and with Irish/Scottish Great Grandfather, whom I am very proud of as well. Obviously Irish men and women love the American men and women, otherwise there would be no Irish Americans. Maybe you need to look at yourself in the mirror and see what is wrong, ah?

I personally get sick of all the Americans who brag about having Irish heritage. You were not born in Ireland and if your mother or father are not Irish, then you are not Irish.

"The majority of murder victims and prisoners in Ireland are male, according to the findings." The way this quote read just made me bust out in a fit of laughing. Maybe it is the bluntness of it, I don't know. I guess the Irish women are kickin' arse? Ok, on a serious note, children are wonderful, if I could have at least three, I would be happy, but as I am approaching my thirties, ( 28 years old) I soon will not be able to have my own, as I am single and it is hard to find a man here in the states, that wants kids anymore. I will have to adopt. Irish ladies, count your blessings if you find a man that wants kids.

Countries build monuments to Wars, Generals, and Heros, but none to mothers. Cromwell want to push the Irish out of exsistance. He only want enough Irish around to tend the fields, while feeding themselvies. Even though they live on the worst land, and had few Civil Rights, the Irish prevailed. In the 18th & 19 centuries, Irish mothers populated Ireland, and the rest of the world with Irish. In the 20th & 21st Centuries, the Catholic Irish mother have gone from a minority in Northern Ireland to a soon to be majority. Peace will come to Northern Ireland through the Irish mothers, but the IRA will get the monuments. Sad.

Have people ever thought that maybe there are plenty of women who actually dont want kids? Just a thought?!

''We would still have an Ireland''? Timbob? I dunno about you but I live in Ireland so its still here and its still full of Irish!
timbobdennehy | Feb 01, 2012, 10:27 AM EST

Rubbish! 94% of all woman have the same fertility. The problem is that continental Eurowomen choose to treat it like a disease and destroy their eggs.

Why I just winked at one,and she...........

What in the world is this article trying to communicate? If Irish women are the most fertile is it because they use less birth control, or does it mean they get pregnant more quickly engaging in unprotected sex. Weird headline.
Porickseantuny | Feb 01, 2012, 09:40 AM EST
Is there any doubt that Europe will be a Muslim colony. Even Ireland's birth rate is barely sufficient to replace the current population. Who's going to fund entitlements of the elderly?

The caption under the photograph-''Women in Ireland are among the most fertile in Ireland''. Really??
