An Irish tourist has been arrested for attempting to rob baked goods at knifepoint.
The 25-year-old, Robert McTernan, from Newbridge, County Kildare, had just landed in Boston for a two-week holiday when the incident took place.
The Kildare man entered the bakery in a largely Italian neighborhood in Boston, grabbed a knife and demanded a cannoli from an employee, according to Associated Press reports.
An employee at Bova’s Bakery handed McTernan the pastry and called the police at 3.30am. Officers then found the Irishman and arrested him. The police could not find his knife.
The tourist was granted $2,000 bail and pledged not guilty. He was ordered to surrender his passport.

Bovas' Bakery should use this as a marketing tool: "Our cannoli are so good that people will travel thousands of miles and risk jail for one!" Caio, baby.

Naw, just a case of bad eyesight,he mistook the cannoli for breakfast rolls, people have been known to take extreme measures to get hold of one, there's even a song about them.

He just got off the plane? Drunk as a newt for sure and figuring, if caught, he'd show genuine remorse, offer to pay for the cannolli, tell the judge about the abusive childhood he had that caused him to become a druggie and alcoholic. Then, like in an Irish courtroom he'd just get the "probation act" and ordered to be a good lad and enjoy his holiday.

Gregshox--your attempt at humor is stupid. Looks like you don't even know what a cannolo is.

This is such a bizarre story. He either lost his mind or someone must have gotten this story wrong.

Somethings not right about this story. What was his motivation? He was on holiday, had just arrived and presumably had plenty of money and no need to steal.Odd.

They called the police? The North End is officially nothing more than a tourist stop. In the old days, this knucklehead would have been lucky to have escaped with a beating.
