O'Shea's Irish casino has closed its doors after 23 years

After 23 years the Irish-themed Las Vegas Strip casino, O’Shea’s, shut its doors on Monday. The casino, part of Caesars Entertainment, has closed to make way for a $500 million entertainment area.

Before its closure on Monday, O’Shea’s patrons were urged to “drink us dry” and hundreds of fans of the casino turned out to help. At the Irish casino known for leprechauns, beer pong, and green drinks, they offered free shots during the “final countdown” celebration.

The new Linq Project is set to include an outdoor shopping and dining area and a giant observation wheel. Caesars’ executives, according to AP reports, have pledged to bring back the casino including its distinctive casual atmosphere as part of the Linq Project.

O’Shea’s employs about 300 people. Caesars’ has been trying to place them in other jobs within the company.

The implosion of O’Shea’s car park is set to take place on Tuesday.
