The dreadful Irish weather has caused havoc up and down the country as the unpredictable summer continues.

Rock slides in County Kerry due to heavy rainfalls have led to a large section of the coastal cliff of Mount Brandon falling into the sea.

And torrential rain at the weekend led to the cancellation of the celebrated Cork agricultural show.
The landslide occurred at the uninhabited Sauce Creek between Brandon Head and Brandon Point and continued into Sunday.

No injuries are reported but locals fear the rock slides will continue in an area used by lobster fishermen and leisure craft passing between Tralee Bay and Dingle.

Media reports say Valentia coastguard station received reports from sea traffic about rocks off Brandon and was investigating. The Irish Times reports that most of Kerry’s coastline is ‘soft’ and subject to erosion.

Some $40 million would be needed to address the coastal erosion problem in Kerry alone, according to council estimates.

Meanwhile the 171st Cork Summer Show, set to attract more than 30,000 people to a 126-acre farm on the southside of the city, was cancelled because of unprecedented and ongoing rain.

The Munster Agricultural Society organised show has drawn impressive crowds since the 1800s with a mix of machinery exhibits, livestock shows and everything from fruit and vegetable displays to cookery demonstrations.

Vice-chairman of the society Gerard Murphy said: “The event would have been a big boost to the area but we had no choice but to cancel.”
