King went luke warm on Sinn Fein after he copped on to their marxist anti-American rhetoric & policies at home in Ireland whilst courting the US for funds - easly done before the internet came along.
FallsRNat has it right - there was no large scale stereotyping, Irish were not targetted for being Irish. The security services would work on profile and the general profile of an IRA terrorist was Irish Catholic or Irish Catholic ancestry with links to Sinn Fein, Noraid etc etc
Profile of suicide bombers is going to generally be middle eastern muslim - doesnt mean every middle eastern muslim and as we have seen some have been african and others have been american or british white people - its a profile to try and help narrow things down - common sense tells us an english upper class tory is not an ira bomber or a baptist us democrat is not an islamic terrorist.

FallsRNat..Are you on the proddy weed again..How can you utter the words the brits have always been an open, fairer society than ireland? Did you close your eyes at this fact!!Security officials and politicians scapegoated the wider Irish community for the IRA's violence. We knew that innocent people, like the Guildford Four and the Birmingham Six, had been wrongly convicted of terrorist crimes. The Maguire family in London – including the children -- was sent to prison for terrorist offenses that had not even taken place. It could have been any of us, for being Irish in the wrong place at the wrong time. If the Brit's locked you up for 15 years, you wouldn't say that. You know something Seamus, you are a Belfast Billy. No nationalist any side of the border would come out with your sh*t. But I am wondering where exactly the Irish people are demonizing the Muslim people, that's a new one to me.

more shite, i spent some of my early teenage years in brum, the ordinary brits didn't care about a dark corner of the UK called NI.
Nobody persecuted me because i was irish, the brits have always been an open, fairer society than ireland.
PIRA weren't the only ones bombing in this period, arabs were at it as well.

A silly article, but an utterly stupid headline. When did the Irish "demonize Muslims"? They are letting many thousands of them come as settlers into Ireland. The Irish (who are broke) are spending hundreds of millions on welfare for these Muslims, and for teaching English to their children and giving them a free education. Have some sense, Dooley, don't be such a fool.

Nothing surprising there- the old patriarchal scam of divide and conquer - pit the Irish against the British, muslim against the christian while the hidden hand laughs.
