Belfast based scientists are calling all chocolate lovers to come forward for a new study.
Scientists from Queen’s University and the Belfast Health and Social Care trust are beginning a three-year research project which will examine the potential health benefits of eating dark chocolate along with other 'polyphenol' rich foods, to see whether or not it can reduce heart disease.

As a part of the study patients will maintain a diet of 50 grams of chocolate per day. They will examine blood vessel health and the stickiness of blood at the beginning and end of the trial.
However, not everyone can apply for the medical trial, only those aged 45-60 are eligible and applicants must have a history of high blood pressure but not diabetes.
Lucky participants will receive £120 plus some expenses as well as home deliveries of fruit, vegetables, and of course dark chocolate.

How would they know for certain that it's not the fruit and vegetables instead of the chocolate? Unless half are getting chocolate with fruit and vegetables and the other half just chocolate.

This is a great deal. I wish I were in Belfast and didn't have the high blood pressure. Plus I'm right at the edge of being too old. It may sound humorous, but it is a legitimate study. Some earlier studies have shown a benefit from dark choco in moderation.
