Irish priest caught peeping in shopping mall toilet promoted
Bishop of Raphoe elevates priest charged with indecency to parish priest
A Catholic priest who was banned from a shopping center for spying on people in the men’s bathroom has been given a promotion by the Bishop of Raphoe.
Last month Father Patrick McGarvey (43) was elevated to the position of parish priest of Fanad, County Donegal, by Bishop Philip Boyce.
According to the Belfast Telegraph, in August 2004 McGarvey was caught by undercover police at Foyleside shopping centre in Derry, watching men in the public restrooms. The police caught the priest while carrying out an investigation after members of the public had complained.
McGarvey was charged with indecency. He pled guilty and was given a two-year conditional discharge.
