Independent Deputy Mick Wallace has been forced to apologize after he was caught on a live microphone labeling a member of the Government Miss Piggy in the Irish parliament chambers.

Wallace had to call Fine Gael deputy Mary Mitchell-O’Connor after live microphones in the chambers caught him making the remark to fellow independents Luke ‘Ming’ Flanagan and Shane Ross.

Microphones are normally switched off during votes but a blogger realized that Wallace had been caught making the remark on air after one of the recording devices was left running.

Wednesday’s papers report that Wallace can be heard saying that ‘Miss Piggy’ had ‘toned down a bit’. Claims were then made that Mitchell-O’Connor should ‘be banned from wearing pink’.

Deputies Flanagan and Ross then join in and it becomes clear they are talking about Mary Mitchell O’Connor, the Fine Gael deputy for Dun Laoghaire.

Wallace has since apologized to Mitchell O’Connor for any offence caused by calling her Miss Piggy.

Speaking to Irish radio, he said: “I was completely out of order in the comments made. It was completely my fault and my fellow Independent Deputies Shane Ross and Luke ‘Ming’ Flanagan had nothing to do with it.

“It was clearly in bad taste and I had no right to be passing comment like that. I rang Mary this morning and apologized.”

I have seen photos of Mick Wallace and Ming Flanagan & I can easily see why the European Monetary Authorities & any other European Authority would have a hard time taking the financial woes of the country seriously. I'm sure Niall O'Dowd's departure from the political scene back there was greeted with a sigh of relief from the likes of them as a touch of class would seriously compromise their agenda.
Miss Piggy was always a 'Miss'...no self respecting 'Ms' would be interested in a slimy little reptile...!
The picture accompanying the article has him clad in black. He usually wears pink.
If their status is married without name change, then you'd have to use "Ms" for them, wouldn't you? I am assuming that most of them have their fathers' last names, in which case, the marital designator "Mrs" prefaces their names with the moral equivalent of profanity. But in any case, marital status is irrelevant unless she's in a singles' bar alone! And even then, any interested person could just ask her marital status. Most Irish women do not change their names when they marry--right? In my line of work, the last woman I knew of who put a "Mrs." in front of her name was married in 1957. We just don't do that any more.
Why don't we just go with the neutral 'Ms'...in the same way that 'Mr' is consisdered appropriate for men deeming it unnecessary to know their marital status...?
He clearly lacks respect for women!
A near bankrupt, a pot smoker and a westbrit. The cathoirlach is going to have to lay down some rules. The people who elected this shower are worse that the Kerry Eegits that keep returning the Healy Raes.
Was it Miss, or MRS.
