Irish authorities were taken aback when US security services refused to share key information about the President Obama visit, despite the fact that he is a guest in Ireland.
However, US security services are so concerned abut Obama’s safety that key details have not been fleshed out with Irish police.
It is believed that 150 secret service agents alone are on hand to ensure that the security aspects of the trip are carried off smoothly.
But Irish security chiefs were said to be taken aback by the lack of information until the very last second on key aspects of the president’s trip according to The Irish Times.
Having carried out flawless security for Queen Elizabeth’s recent visit to Ireland, the were expecting more input..
The president’s location overnight was only decided at the last minute with the five star Merrion Hotel opposite Irish government buildings locked down yesterday by the secret service.
It had been presumed that the president would stay in the Ambassador’s residence in the Phoenix Park where President Clinton had stayed.
It has also been revealed that Obama will visit the US Embassy in Ballsbridge , Dublin and a major security alert was under way there.
There will be a massive security presence at the president’s outdoor speech in College Green in the heart of Dublin
Key issues on whether the president would travel by car to the Phoenix Park to meet with President McAleese and the Irish government or by helicopter were also not released in advance.
The village of Moneygall has also been put in lock down with a massive security operation in place.
TV crews from around the world were on hand and were complaining that tight security meant that they might not get the best shots. The NBC Today show planned a major live broadcast from the site.

To mqggiepoo: I did not mean you. I meant those other two jokers. I am sorry, I apologize to you.
weasetta | May 24, 2011, 11:14 AM EDT
Maggiepoo, Deburca and Ajreaper worship Obummer are akin to the rats following the Pied Piper of Hamlin. Let em' go! That'll be 2 less to blindly follow their leader! Haha!!!!
ochshane | May 24, 2011, 10:57 AM EDT
Party like it's 1967 (in Israel)! Teabagging,now there's a concept!
deburca | May 24, 2011, 10:31 AM EDT
Comparing the Right Winger/tbagger posts to all other posts in here makes the ignorance of the tbaggers so obvious. Racist, ignorant put downs of the president with no basis in reality, and right wing talking points. The funny thing is that they think what they're saying isn't stupid.
Ajreaper | May 23, 2011, 10:37 PM EDT
weasetta by not being able to answer my question you answered it- nothing more then a blow hard minus and substance at all. Can call the President names and complain about what he's done or not done but actually provide information, be specific about any of your accusations well you lack that ability. Its really alright as no one her believed you capable of an actual adult debate concerning anything of substance. Maggiepoo I dont recall the president ever claiming to be any of those things- others provide the labels he never has.
deburca | May 23, 2011, 08:43 PM EDT
Maggiepoo, all tbaggers call themselves "Independents". True Independents do not write crap like you are about the POTUS. You're a bagger and your comments give you away, because tbaggers are writing the same garbage all over the internet. Some do it for a couple cents per word, others just do it for free because they have Obama Derangement Syndrome (ODS - The acute onset of paranoia in otherwise normal people in reaction to the policies, the statements -- nay -- the very existence of Barack Obama.)
deburca | May 23, 2011, 07:59 PM EDT
maggiepoo & weasetta, the more the 2 of you say, the more you expose just how deranged the tparty people are.
deburca | May 23, 2011, 05:37 PM EDT
Is féidir linn!
deburca | May 23, 2011, 05:17 PM EDT
Yes, don't worry nutters, "God will sort this all out" lol
weasetta | May 23, 2011, 05:09 PM EDT
Deburca, lol! Haha! You are hilarious!!!!!
weasetta | May 23, 2011, 04:18 PM EDT
Actually, just to hear King Obama speak makes me Ill so Deburca I would listen o what he has to say anyway. He says onething then behind the scenes he is doing an entirely different thing. All of you with your serious disillusions about your Master Obama can keep worshiping him. I see no reason to justify my feelings on this subject, Ajreaper. At least I am free in my mind as are alot of others. Pity those who worship this wanna be King.
deburca | May 23, 2011, 02:37 PM EDT
I apparently cannot post the link here so I suggest you all go to IrishTimes.com to hear the audio of President Obama's excellent speech given in College Green in Dublin today!
Ajreaper | May 23, 2011, 02:37 PM EDT
Billyjustin- whio in this world is not politically minded? LOL, weasetta the antichrist? Oh my now claim he's another Hitler- I mean why stop at being half a nutt job? Explain exactly what he has done that makes him a wanna be king? Don't generalize be specific and if you are unable to its time to remain quiet.

All of you liberal, right wingers are so blinded by he thinks he is a king and wanna be dictator, will never see the truth until it is too late. As for most True, red-blooded Americans such as I see through the farce and innate evilness. He is the Devil Incarnate. Also known as the Third Anti-Christ.
deburca | May 23, 2011, 02:01 PM EDT
I agree with bonjouryall - thank you for your comments Conchubar. A reasonable, informed comment that gave us information relative to this article! You win today!
billyjustin | May 23, 2011, 02:00 PM EDT
why dont you politically minded dickheads get off this comment page and have it out in person, cyber bullying is not the way to go..

Thank you, Conchubar, for your comments. I stand corrected in my comments.

@weasetta-Are there no muslims living in America?Grow up kid..better yet give mommy back her laptop.
antoman | May 23, 2011, 01:46 PM EDT
Taoiseach Enda Kenny presented President Obama with a first edition book of stories from the place of his birth in Hawaii for his kids.Written by an Irishman. That must have made the donald and other birthers squirm.
deburca | May 23, 2011, 01:45 PM EDT
LOL weasetta, it must be awful to live in a tbagger bubble and then become exposed to people who think you're a nutter! No, sorry to let you in on it but it is just us everyday, normal, reasonable Americans who think you folks are like a cancer on our Republic.
Ajreaper | May 23, 2011, 01:44 PM EDT
It appears in the U.S. we have radical stupidity to counter radical Islamics. Weasetta please explain to us what the president can do without congress? What Obama driven pieces of legislation has the Supreme court struck down? I am a Republican that did not vote for him and I often do not share his position on a wide range of issues but I do understand he's one man with no magical powers to do anything he wants- in fact there is no man on the planet more under the microscope for every decision he makes or fails to make. That tends to make one pretty thoughtful or very committed on every plan of action or decision he makes.
weasetta | May 23, 2011, 01:39 PM EDT
Hey Deburca, you must be Muslim. Only someone who is blind and dumb as you are could be Muslim. You must be one of his robots, hanging on his every word. You are sickening!
Ajreaper | May 23, 2011, 01:32 PM EDT
Embassadors home? And where would one find the Embassadors home? My guess is staying at the Hotel is a better security situation then staying in Phoenix park at the ambassadors residence. If you have been to Phoenix park you'd understand the nightmare security would be there without locking down the entire park and even at that it's a huge park. Also the belief by a great many that he would indeed stay there means anyone planning something just got a big wrinkle thrown into their plans. It's not very high security if you tell everyone and their brother or do exactly what everyone assumes you are going to do. He's a president traveling abroad for the 1st time after ordering the raid that resulted in the killing of Osama- I know some of you cannot grasp why that may have a cause and effect ripple on how the presidents security was handled. And Whitey I am sure the man can afford his own pint pretty much anywhere he chooses to go.
deburca | May 23, 2011, 01:26 PM EDT
Hey, he drank the Guinness! After all the fuss about the Queen and Prince Philip turning it down its nice to see a leader partaking! Great photos! (keep talking weasetta - the world needs to see the tbaggers for the dolts they are!)
weasetta | May 23, 2011, 01:19 PM EDT
In O'bama's own words from "Audacity of Hope" "I will stand with the Muslims should the political winds shift in an ugly direction. Does this sound like a president who has the best interest of the American people at heart? No, it does not! He does not like anyone to question his motives. He says, "Deal with it" He's like a spoiled child who stomps their feet and refuses to listen to anyone else. Pretty soon all the women here in the states will be relegated to 2nd class citizens, wearing Burkas, unable to drive, like the women in Muslim ruled countries. We need to impeach this Ass before he does irrevocable harm to our country.
deburca | May 23, 2011, 01:16 PM EDT
Keep talking baggers, you prove the point that there is a fringe, lunatic element in America that is obsessed with an irrational hatred of Obama to the point that they go from website to website and blog to blog posting ignorant put downs of the president (ie. the 5-star hotel silliness by whiteycat) or ignorant put downs of the rational people of the US who support and are respectful to our duly elected president (ie. walleyman's equally ignorant messiah comment.) Keep talking you make our case. Only fools would think that the Secret Service would not keep much of the plans secret from everyone - they are doing their job which is to keep the president safe.
VernonC | May 23, 2011, 01:15 PM EDT
I'm inclined to believe that the secret service provides more protection for Obama, for obvious reasons, than for any president heretofore. Only by the farthest stretch can he claim Irish blood but it's good he has Ireland to visit, he sure isn't welcome into the English royal presence and he sure isn't welcome in Islamic nations after the Osama bin Laden assassination. If Bill Clinton were appearing in the next hamlet he would get more attention. Ireland, send him packing.
whiteycat | May 23, 2011, 01:15 PM EDT
He does no American flag waving in the middle east. There he caters to muslims only.He is selling us out and everyone just thinks he is naive. BS. He knows exactly what he is doing.
IAPRINCESS | May 23, 2011, 01:10 PM EDT
maggierpoo is poo
IAPRINCESS | May 23, 2011, 01:09 PM EDT
God keep him safe!! The whole world of terrorists is after him so a little darkness never hurt anyone. Do not take offense.
whiteycat | May 23, 2011, 01:06 PM EDT
Magiepoo it is so great to get on here and find someone who is not blind to Obamas ways and also someone unafraid to say it. He is having a pint at a pub? well golly gee that would make my day, NOT. Hes not spending his money he is spending ours.People just dont see thast. He will throw Ireland under the bus if ever needed just like Israel.
whiteycat | May 23, 2011, 12:56 PM EDT
Only a five star hotel is good enough for Obama, there he and wife can drink and party all without prying eyes. Embassadors home is not good enough. Puhleez. He was lowly at birth but look where he is now. Nothing but the best is good enough. Why arent his kids there?
Conchubar | May 23, 2011, 12:46 PM EDT
@bonjouryall; As a retired ranking police officer who assisted in the planning and escort of two presidents and several acknowledged candidates, I will again state that the Secret Service does NOT share all details with local, county, and state police agencies. Some routes and timetables are changed at the last minute. Some of these details are with-held until the last possible moment. Uniformed officers must display Secret Service ID and cleared ahead of time before being permitted in the immediate area of the person being protected. The names of these officers had to be submitted to the Secret Service ahead of time.
bonjouryall | May 23, 2011, 12:24 PM EDT
I disagree with the comment that the Secret Service does not share details with the state and local police in America. Of course, the writer's undisclosed "certain details" is so vague that he can claim to be correct without being disputed. I say the public does not get a disclosure of where he will be at any given time as a precaution but the state and locals always do in order to close roadways, direct traffic, man overpasses and provide additional security at specific destinations. As to Ireland, the same should apply. He'd be safer working with the locals. Ireland is not Pakistan.
walleyeman | May 23, 2011, 12:09 PM EDT
Hey Deburca do you wear one might explain your fealty to your messiah Obummer.
Ajreaper | May 23, 2011, 11:57 AM EDT
So maggiepoo its your contention the use of speech writers and teleprompters is the exception and not the rule for American Presidents (and a great many others)? I must admit at least your proud of your profound ignorance or perhaps too ignorant to realize you are far from the sharpest stick in the wood pile.
deburca | May 23, 2011, 11:31 AM EDT
@baldon73 - Did you think that comment contradicted what I just said about ignorant tbaggers? Keep talking you all make my case beautifully.
antoman | May 23, 2011, 11:31 AM EDT
Take*
antoman | May 23, 2011, 11:30 AM EDT
@Deburca-Tahe no heed of the nay sayers. Its a proud day for Americans.President Obama has done an amazing job of flying the flag for America here in Ireland and abroad. He has been generous with his time in Moneygall.Greeting and meeting all the people there.Unlike the Queen he drank,he gulped down a pint of the black stuff and PAID for it.Really nice guy and his wife too.A proud day for Ireland and America.
baldon73 | May 23, 2011, 11:25 AM EDT
Haven't you read the news for the last 2 1/2 years? the Emperor obama doesn't believe in anything except himself and his own leftist agenda. Forcing unconstitutional laws and ignoring the will of the country he is supposed to lead.
deburca | May 23, 2011, 11:23 AM EDT
I am not ashamed of my country, I am ashamed of having to share it with the ignorant tbaggers who spend every waking hour bashing our duly elected president with slander and childish insults. Get a life.
Ajreaper | May 23, 2011, 11:15 AM EDT
Maggiepoo you are a complete ignorant arse- be silent.
MMLeprechaun | May 23, 2011, 11:11 AM EDT
Deburca, quit the "race talk" -- it's old hat to Americans. He is not ALL negro, white, or any other race. Tis a pity that his maternal side has any Irish blood in it because he is a disgrace to Americans, Africans and the Irish. The kindest thing anyone can do is to pray for him...God knows he needs it.
Conchubar | May 23, 2011, 10:57 AM EDT
For at least the last 40 years the Secret Service has refused to share certain details of the President's movements with anyone; including American local, county, and state police officials. I don't believe this is, or should be taken as, a slight to the Garda and Irish security forces who are first-rate. Besides, if intimate information was shared then something happened to him, who do you think would get the blame for leaking his movements? The Irish security forces and Garda may be better off allowing the Secret Service to take full responsibility for his safety. C.Y.A.
deburca | May 23, 2011, 10:39 AM EDT
As an American I am really embarrassed of these tbaggers flooding the net with their Obama-bashing, hate filled ignorance. It's bad enough the majority of Americans - reasonable, intelligent people, have to share a country with these obnoxious right-wing trolls, but to have the whole world witness this phenomena puts the US to shame.
francisquinn | May 23, 2011, 10:26 AM EDT
He just scewed up the Israeli Palestine talks.....dont let him near anyone of importantce in Ireland....he is a Horror...
deburca | May 23, 2011, 10:24 AM EDT
This president has received something like 300% increase of death threats (as compared with previous presidents) in his own country from extremists who can't deal with having a black man as president. Now he is just after getting Osama Bin Laden. I doubt very much that anyone in Ireland is surprised at the intensity and secrecy of the security surrounding President Obama and I suspect this is made up hype.
Ajreaper | May 23, 2011, 10:22 AM EDT
Some of you are complete dunces- the president does not plan his security the secret service does. The entire point of security is to make it difficult to plan an attack and how and when and where he travels is part of that. None of you need to know where he stays over night or if he travels by car, helicopter, train or bus- good Lord some of you wear your stupdity on your sleeves with great pride.
fourfloorsup | May 23, 2011, 10:02 AM EDT
Why the furore? The US security's reticence in sharing pertinent information is hardly new(s). The fact that 'Irish authorities' were 'taken aback', perhaps indicates a worrying lack of the protocols that US security employ, or even worse, a deluded expectation of preferential teatment.
joan1954 | May 23, 2011, 10:00 AM EDT
What do you expect? I am an American and he doesn't let the American people know anything either. The old WW II motto of loose lips sink ships comes to mind.
LinLinisme | May 23, 2011, 09:54 AM EDT
wbj1tex You said it just right. Good for you and I hope everyone reads your message.
antoman | May 23, 2011, 09:44 AM EDT
Its a sign of the friendship we have for our American cousins that we give their President and Co free reign in Ireland. There are countries who when not provided with information that was apparently denied Irish authorities here would not permit him to enter their country.
MotherIrish | May 23, 2011, 09:39 AM EDT
At teh Crown Plaza/HI Express, on Fri there was so much garda present for his trip and they were not being informed and complained about just spending time hanging around. I know I was there!!! Obama thinks he is so much better than anyone else. Moneygall is shut down and he does not care about the 'common man/woman', we are just his financial support through our taxes. Ireland did a wonderful job with the Queen and kudo's to you all for it. By the way, please keep Obama -- but then again, we did not meet one person in 2 weeks of travel in Ireland & Ulster who wanted him there. All said he is just a waste of taxpayer money and they don't have the money. I think you will find it cost more for his one day than her 4 days. Take care who you sleep with, Ireland.
ochshane | May 23, 2011, 09:25 AM EDT
It was the same scenario when President Reagan visited.Look it up Niall.
wjb1tex | May 23, 2011, 09:21 AM EDT
No surprise. Obama doesn't let the American people know anything. After promising transparency he hides everything from personal information to information that we have a right to know. And, the constitution and the law be damned. He operates without regard to either. The latest being engaging our troops in Lybia without the consent of Congress.
