Irish journalist accused in child sex scandal gravely ill in hospital
Tom Humphries in critical condition, suffering from 'serious brain and heart trauma'
Tom Humphries, the Irish Times journalist at the center of police investigations into the alleged sexual abuse of a teenage girl, is in critical condition in hospital. The sports writer is said to be suffering from "serious brain and heart trauma."
He was admitted into the hospital on Monday having complained of chest pains, according to reports in the Evening Herald. He is receiving around-the-clock intensive care.
A journalist with a national broadsheet newspaper, he was accused of sexually abusing a teenage girl whom he had met through his involvement with a Dublin GAA football club. Since the accusations, he has been attending a psychiatric hospital on a regular basis.
A second allegation of inappropriate conduct with a minor has since emerged.
Police have not been able to interview the journalist due to his medical condition.
