Irish heritage certificate available by year end

Looks interesting. I have relatives who claimed their Irish citizenship thus becoming dual citizens. This seems better to me.

Ireland is so much more than sentiment to me. My grandmother who was at least 75% Irish and at most 25% Scottish, chose to consider herself Scottish. Growing up with her she would talk about going to Scotland all the time. I always asked if she would go to Ireland and take me with her, but she said "no". My Grandfather, who died before I was born was the son of parents born in Tipperary. She obviously had very mixed feelings about the 'Irish'. Her father was born in Limerick, I can substantiate all this. So, I finally asked her if she would take me to Scotland with her and she said "maybe"... She never went. It is as though Ireland has always been calling me. I will accept your certificate, Ireland because I can share openly with other Irish people, my Irishness.

A nice tourist and sentimental token, but not the same value to Ireland or to its far flung children as extending dual citizenship, absent the non-resident vote, to more generations.

Mikey, I see census records and Ancestry.com in your future and maybe a prof. genealogist if you're researching a "Murphy" surname. I have extensive, comprehensive documentation (Mom's a prof. genealogist)but our family plans to travel to Ireland like we always have - on American passports. Irish Heritage certificates? - thanks, but no thanks.

I wonder what kind of documents are going to be needed? I guess simply your last name will not do much
