An Irish hacker is making waves in the Apple world as he successfully hacked the new touch-screen iPod Nano.

This feat, according to MyGadgetNews.com, enabled him to bypass the cache compression on the sixth generation device, and allowed for installation of a “springboard hack” which provides for a blank space creation on the popular player.

James Whelton, who apparently won the iPod Nano as an award, says that his discovery allowed him delve further into the device to find a list of supported features in Nano’s preference menu, including movies, TV shows, games and apps.

“With the bypass I figured out,” Whelton says, “I hope to enable these pretty soon.”

Apple fans can track Whelton’s progress on his website, Nanohack.me, and regular updates to his Twitter account.

“The iPod Nano hasn’t been ‘jailbroken’ as some sites claim, I do not have root access over the device. I did not ‘install’ an app. I figured out how to remove them and insert a blank space into the springboard,” Whelton posted on Tuesday.

newcanaan...If you use the sweeping term Irish to describe what one Irish person did again, and make you sound like a moran (Moron)in everything you post.
he s still wrong, maybe his parents should teach him stealing is wrong. when the banks did it to you it was a crime but this guy is your hero, thats the Irish for you.
so if you buy a gun you can do what you want with it ? you moran.
Fair use. We owns that physical piece of tech. What he chooses to do with it is his business. As much as I love Apple, they are far too proprietary. Good for him!
He's brilliant!
This is not good. These Hackers are breaking the law and should be jailed. What gives them the right?
He should use his talent to invent something new not steal from others. What a looser.
