An Irish woman was treated for stab wounds to the face following an incident at a hostel in Sydney, Australia.

Timothy Kelly, 36, allegedly attacked two German tourists, both 19, and a 24-year-old Irish woman in a frenzied attack with a piece of glass outside a hostel in Sydney after 2.10am on Thursday.

One of the German teens received stab wounds to the neck and the other to the arm. Irish backpacker, Aifric Butler-Rees, 24, left crying hysterically after Kelly allegedly stabbed her in the face with a piece of glass, the Australian reports. It is understood the Irish woman sustained minor cuts to her face.

None of the injuries are life threatening, New South Wales police said in a statement.

The three became involved in an argument with the man, who is listed as living at a homeless shelter, at a hostel on Pitt Street at Haymarket. A fourth man intervened to help the group, before the attacker fled the scene.

“Police will allege one of the men was stabbed in the neck during the incident, while the second man was stabbed in the arm. The woman also sustained a stab wound to her face,” a police statement said.

All three backpackers were treated by ambulance paramedics before being taken to St Vincent’s Hospital.

Kelly was later arrested and charged with three counts of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and damaging property.

Later on Thursday the Irish woman thanked well wishers on her Facebook page.

“Thanks a million for all the well wishes and messages guys, really appreciate it. Out of surgery and home already, bit cut up and shook but hey chicks dig scars!,” she wrote.
