We live virtually around the corner from these hard hit areas in Brooklyn, but closer to Gerritsen Beach who never expected the hit that they got as well. My heart cries for my city. The devastation is beyond belief when you see it, especially in person. The Harbor Lights owner in the Rockaways was especially hard-hit as he lost his son in 9/11 and now his only solace, his tavern and restaurant, which he graciously laid open to any person or family who suffered a loss in 9/11 or who served in the armed forces; is gone as is his home and that of his neighbors, including that of two of my family members. My friends in Staten Island's Midland and South Beaches lost homes, completely, no chance or rebuilding at all, perhaps 6 and are still counting; we are afraid of what or who they will find next. They are especially shattered. The truth is, we don't know where to start to help, so whatever we can do, we do. Clothing, food, shelter, whatever. May God be with all...and we will rebuild.
