An Irish TV station has been ordered to apologize after one its anchors described Israel as a "cancer in foreign affairs" on a weeknight program.

Vincent Browne, a veteran journalist and host of TV3’s 'Tonight with Vincent Browne,' made the remarks on October 23, 2012, during a news segment about the conflict in the Middle East.

The frequently outspoken pundit said that Israel was a "cancer in foreign affairs".

He said: “It polarizes the Islamic community of the world against the rest of the world.”

“Unless you deal with the problem of Israel and the Palestinians in that part of the world, there’s going to be conflict and disharmony. It’s a massive injustice - they stole the land from the Arabs.”

The complaint was upheld by the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland (BAI), which stated the host's remarks "failed to meet the requirement for fair, objective and impartial treatment of news and current affairs,” the Irish Independent reports.

The Independent TV network now has three weeks to apologize on air.

However, the BAI dismissed the claim that the presenter made anti-Semitic remarks during the show.

The complaint was made by Paul Rossiter who found the comments to be “deeply offensive”, regarding them as “anti-Semitic and indefensible coming from a journalist who is supposed to show objectivity”.

After the broadcast Browne expressed regret for using the word “cancer."

“What I resent is the suggestion that because you’re critical of Israel, you’re automatically anti-Semitic,” he told the Irish Independent. “I don’t think that’s acceptable.”

The BAI also ruled that a discussion on abortion on 'Ireland AM' on August 22, 2012, was not balanced.

i have no wish for jewish people to suffer anymore than the palestinians,if you had to say who,s suffering most i think the palestinians would take the cup.my argument was to broker a just peace which will be impossible while the stated aim of israel is to create a greater israel which drives a wedge between the two parts of palestine needed for a palestinian state, built on land occupied by palestinians for centuries. When someone invades and occupies your country you have a right to fight back, its a lot david and goliath except goliath is now israel and the usa.Any one who thinks it right to drive people from their own land and homes into concentration camps is,..ironic isnt it.its a pity a part of that 3billion dollars,(who else gets that sort of money from a suposedly bankrupt country? couldnt go to settling these people back where they were driven from.tovarich.
'merefalow', we know very well "who runs" our country - he's a doctrinaire Leftist who seems to have no problems with continuing the expansionist status quo in Israel - in fact, Vice President Joe Biden recently stated that "no President has ever been as supportive of Israel" as Barack Obama. As for your 'Jewish Lobby', please note that >70% of American Jews continue to support Barack Obama, and they are typically hard-core Socialists, as I believe most Irish to be, so I would have to interpret this Irish-Obama dispute as a conflict between Brother Socialists. I would also respectfully suggest, that as long as your definition of 'peace' is defined as HAMAS firing over 4000 rockets into Israel from the Palestinian territories without a military response being deemed appropriate, then we will never see YOUR definition of 'peace' come to fruition. Cheers, Tovarich!
the analysis is correct, the use of the word cancer ?there will be no peace in the middle east untill the question of palestine is settled JUSTLY.IREAL IS NO MORE THAN AN AMERICAN STATE,SUBSIDISED TO THE TUNE OF 3,BILLION DOLLARS A YEAR.THE AMERICANS OUGHT TO QUESTION JUST WHO RUNS THEIR COUNTRY?THE JEWISH LOBBY IS ALL POWERFULL.AND AS THE JEWISH POLICY IS THE CREATION OF GREATER ISRAEL YOU WILL SEE NO PEACE UNTILL THE LAND GRAB OF PALESTINE IS STOPPED AND THE STATE OF PALESTINE ESTABLISHED,WITH GUARANTEES OF PEACFULL CO EXISTANCE,DONT HOLE YOUR BREATH,INSTEAD LOOK FOR AN ESCALATION ONCE ASSAD IS OVERTURNED INVOLVING IRAN.
The BAI did the right thing here and Vincent Browne should apologize. It's time for Ireland to address the problem of its Judeophobia, a legacy of their rule by Christian overlords.
The analogy is fitting given the illegal occupation by Israel of Palestinian territory, the wanton killing of Palestinians by the IDF, the destruction of Palestinian homes and villages by order of the Israeli military, etc, etc. A cancer spreads throughout the body, destroying and killing whatever it invades. Kudos to Vincent Browne for speaking the truth about a government/country committing internationally condemned criminal acts. Israel is a cancer that must be contained...
The fools who issued this edict might do better to ask the Israelis to apologize for misusing Irish passports when they murdered a man last year.
