Irish Mexican Alliance gathers in El Paso, Texas

all the best to everyone involved! yis probably all know this already, but The Chieftains put out an album 2 years ago or so, i think titled Los San Patricios, that is very fascinating music and very powerful images and historical pieces. got me to go and read a book on the mexican war, just for a better grasp. the first john shiel i know of came from ireland to america as a baby, went to that war as an american soldier, and never returned home to indiana.

Just had to share this with my friends in El Paso. Like Karena Cuilty Oberman, Mexican Irish author who grew up in El Paso.

Of course there is a Irish -Mexican alliance-read of the San Patricios,Irish who left fighting with America in the Mexican war to fight with and for the Mexicans.Interesting reading!

Very good article...Little is out there to show the close connection between the Irish and the people living in Mexico and points farther south.
