Detainees at Guantanamo Bay

The U.S. Department of Justice announced on Saturday that it had transferred two prisoners from their detention facility in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba into the care of the Irish government.

The two prisoners were sent to the Emerald Isle, while another one, Alla Ali Bin Ali Ahmed, was sent back to his native Yemen.

“In addition, two additional detainees were transferred to the government of Ireland. Pursuant to a request from the government of Ireland, the identities of these detainees are being withheld for security and privacy reasons,” said the U.S. Department of Justice on its Web site.

The Irish government agreed to accept the two detainees, two men believed to be from Uzbekistan, in July.

President Barack Obama wants to close the Guantanamo Bay detention facility by January 2010.
