Victims of the Dublin and Monaghan bombings and their relatives have called on the British government to mark the Queen’s visit to Ireland by releasing secret files on the case.

The 1974 bombings killed 34 men, women and children and injured another 300 when loyalist paramilitaries brought death across the border.

The Queen will arrive in Dublin on the 37th anniversary of the bombings on Tuesday amid calls from survivors and victim support groups to open top secret British files on the events of 1974.

Ireland’s parliament is also to debate a Sinn Fein motion on Tuesday which repeats a 2008 all-party call on the British government to release all files on the Dublin and Monaghan bombings.

The Justice for the Forgotten group – which represents survivors and families of those affected by the Troubles – has already written to the Queen on the subject.

In their letter to Queen Elizabeth, the group has called on British Prime Minister David Cameron to ‘pursue the truth with vigor - make us all stronger - open up the files’.

The 2003 Barron report into the bombings ruled that they were carried out by loyalist paramilitaries but said there were grounds for suspicion that the bombers were aided by security forces in the North.

An Irish parliament committee report also suggested collusion between the bombers and British security forces on the ground in Northern Ireland.

In its letter, the Justice for the Forgotten group tells the Queen that her visit is a sign of improving relations between Ireland and England.

It adds: “We are appealing, through you, to your Prime Minister David Cameron, to mark the occasion of this historic visit by a genuinely significant gesture of reconciliation.”

The group has advertised its letter in the national press, and asked for donations from members of the Irish parliament to pay for it.

Fianna Fail and Sinn Fein deputies have already contributed and the group also expects donations from Labor Party members.

Interestingly there was a movie made about MI5's involvement in alleged "IRA" bombings, I saw it on an AerLingus flight about a year 1/2 ago, it was claimed that it was a true story, with input from both a "former-IRA member" and an MI5 member...what happened to that? Likely the same thing that happened to the Wind that Shakes the Barley - when it was suddenly taken off pay per view- brit owned media wouldn't approve of it becoming well known...
seano - MI5 have as much to do with the D&B bombings as the Martians murdering Mrs McConville.
What happens if the ghost of Lord Mountbatten presents itself.
Seano – my true beliefs are quite straightforward…I don’t know if the allegations of collusion are true, neither of course do you. I do know that it suits the extremist republican narrative to assume that they are true, as they need another ‘hook’ following the end of the ‘Bloody Sunday’ saga. Why? It diverts attention from the fact that the they have failed to bomb their way to their preferred outcome, and justifies ‘in their twisted logic’ continuing atrocities. Many dark deeds occurred during the troubles, both sides filled with the conviction that they had right on their side…now that the people have spoken, is it not time to look to the future?
The British will never release info. The "Barron" report, give me a break. When John Stalker brought down his independent report on the shoot to kill policy the man was crucified by the his British masters for telling the truth and then we had Widgery and so on and so on.Dan It's about time you showed your true beliefs it must become very painful sitting on the fence.
Liamkeyes - please give us some of this evidence, all I have heard on this is speculation.
Liamkeyes - no it doesn't, if you look at the loyalists blamed for the bombings, they were quite capable of carrying out the atrocities themselves, the leader of their brigade was known as the Jackal, an apt name for 1 of the most committed terrorists of the troubles. The Barron report into the bombings tried its hardest to find some sort of link between MI5 & the outrage & gave up through lack of evidence.
Honesty is the best way forward, but we're talking about politicians here.
I didn't post that comment about Boston College, why is my 'name' attributed to it?
The truth is: M15 (British Secret Service) planted the bomb in Dublin, all the evidence points that way.
The will never reveal the identity of the members of the SAS who were involved in those bombings - but they will expect us to 'move on' without justice being done .....and to think the Irish Government are sucking up to that 'B' on the throne. This is treachery in its worst form!!
The British government will never admit to its part in the bombing, though this is an accepted fact in the Republic of Ireland. If they ever come clean, it will only be after the generation that experienced it is long gone.
Hey if they can go for records from Boston College, why is it not right for them to turn these over? I mean Boston College is not even an Irish institution, the least that should be done is a show of good faith that this visit isn't just a slap in the face and turn these records over NOW.
Not a chance.
