I think it's wonderful that the babies are healthy and beautiful, whether or not they are the first. I wonder if there is an Irish Center in the Bronx? I'm still trying to trace my ancestry and the family records are locked up by one aunt. Congrats to the parents........

It doesnt really matter if its happened before or not. For these kids and their family its a unique, exciting claim to fame - they're possibly the last and first babies of 2011/2012 but regardless, its still cool to grow up being able to tease each other about who is older/younger - they'll fight over that as they get older like we all do - when we're younger we want to be the oldest and when we're older we want to claim being the youngest!!! Its a sweet story regardless of whether it happened before or not! :)

I suppose the "you're not Irish" brigade will be out again, insisting that if you're not born in County Whatever and don't have an Irish accent, you can't possibly be Irish, even if you have an unbroken Irish lineage going back to the time your ancestors left Ireland during the Famine, and have no other nationality in your ancestry. Or am I wrong, nobody in Ireland makes those kind of ignorant comments any more? Do they embrace the fact that there are millions of people scattered around the world who share a common heritage with them?

Yes, a 30 second Google search shows this is hardly uncommon. There have been many twin birth that cross the midnight mark on Dec. 31. . Aaron and Luke Hegenberger were born in different centuries. Now that's uncommon!

As an RN, I've seen this before. Nothing new about it. There have been twins born in different centuries - Dec. 31, 1999 & Jan. 1, 2000.
