She began taking hormones to prepare her uterus and Casey got pregnant on the second cycle of in vitro fertilization. The baby was born without any complications to either his or his grandmother's health.

Casey plans to return to her Virginia home in two weeks and take on the role of grandmother.

She said, "From the very beginning, the moment I've wanted is the moment the baby is in their arms.  I've been clear since after my third child that I didn't need to have any more children, and as much as I will be delighted to be a grandmother, I don't want to take a baby home."

Connell is very appreciative to her mother for her love, generous spirit and "her special gift.”

She said, "It grew beyond the two of us having a child.  It was about the closeness with my mother, and our family having this experience that was unique and special."

Go for it.
It is like a blood donor when you think of it? Yet it is a twisted branch on the family tree this time.
What a wonderful story. I have the chills! Not only was this a selfless act, but it proves that religious leaders do not have all the answers. What is wrong with helping to bring a child into this world? God bless this family.
I wish this family the very best.
Lovely story hope they will all have a very happy life
What an amazing woman. :)
Fabulous news. What a selfless lady who has also helped herself and extended family. I don't understand how 'religious' people can be against this as surrogacy dates from Biblical times. Remember Hagar in the OT? It is a very good hospital, too.
I LOVE this story!!! How wonderful to be able, and willing, to give such a gift! I would do it, too!
Nothing can be wrong when the morality behind surrogacy was ultimately good and a giver of happiness and life. Unlike most abortion's which is an ultimately selfish act and the destruction of life.
Congrats to them all!
I think it's great!
Congratulations! Wonderful news indeed. I too faced years of treatment without a positive outcome. My Mother also said she would carry a baby for me but alas the technology was not there. So very glad that this baby was brought into the world by this Irish Grandmother.
Fabulous - I wish my mother could have done this for me. Best wishes to the whole family!
