Irish American Christine Quinn leads the early polls for mayoral elections in NYC

Receives support from 29 percent of registered Democrats polled

A poll released by Quinnipiac University on Wednesday has Irish American Christine Quinn leading the polls as an early favorite to win the New York City mayoral race.

The Associated Press reports that amongst registered Democrats who were polled, Quinn received a healthy 29 percent of the votes, placing herself leaps and bounds ahead of the other potential candidates.

When asked who they would vote for were the mayoral election held today, three-out-of-ten answered Quinn. Former city Comptroller Bill Thompson got 10 percent. Public Advocate Bill de Blasio and current Comptroller John Liu each won the support of 9 percent. Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer trailed with 4 percent, and newspaper publisher Tom Allon got 1 percent.

Quinn currently serves as City Council Speaker for New York City.

Quinnipiac University surveyed 1,298 randomly selected city voters by telephone from Aug. 8 through Aug. 12. The margin of error was plus or minus 2.7 percentage points.

We all know from "BlueBloods" and Tom Selleck that the NY Police Commissioner serves at the whim of the mayor. Now, what happens to Ray Kelly if the "wicked witch of the East" is indeed elected? She will open up victim rights for Muslims and tone down the aggressive pattern of the NYPD. Just think what she would have done in the "run up" to 9-11. As someone who has frequently visited NY City and gone down to City Hall and the 9-11 site just across the street, this is bad news not only for the morality of New York but for the moral stability of a once great nation.

I don't care about what she does while in her bedroom. I care about what she does while in her political office. I'm not a NYC person, but from what I've read this young lady is quite the fireball and very popular. I'd wish her luck in her bid to be Mayor of one of the world's most important cities.
