Ireland's arctic temperatures continued over night with motorists facing more treacherous road conditions again this morning due to compacted snow and black ice.

Forecasters have also warned of more snowy conditions later today in southeast Ulster, east Leinster and east Munster. Today's temperatures will continue to be very cold with frost and freezing fog persisting across the country.

Public transport continues to be disrupted with Dublin Bus and Bus Éireann running limited services this morning. They have advised passengers to check their websites for updates throughout the day. While Dublin airport remains open, Belfast International Airport closed until 7pm last night.

Dublin City Council has warned of large volumes of snow sliding off roofs and has advised people, especially smokers standing outside pubs and other buildings to avoiding standing directly under roofs.

The Health Service Executive has reported a 50 percent increase in numbers presenting with sprains and fractures due to falls on ice.

Almost an entire year's supply of salt has been used across Ireland since the cold spell began.

Minister for transport Noel Dempsey has said they he expects dangerous travel conditions to persist until at least Thursday morning.
