'Ireland’s Lost Wall' website documents Irish brain drain

List of recent emigrants will be projected on to the walls of political party's HQ

Although the site has been launched during a historic election campaign period in Ireland, Harte was careful to emphasize that the website has nothing to do with any specific political party.

He said, "There’s no political bias for the site and it’s not connected to any party. It’s only aim is to send a message.

“I’m not affiliated with any party and there’s nothing political about this. All I’m trying to do is facilitate the voice of people who were like me when I was away. You just feel so distant.  The site is a reminder to people in Ireland that they’re not just voting for themselves, they’re voting for all these people who probably want to come back.”

georged..Want to meet up? Na, I was thinking more along the lines of cutting your brake lines.
maloney: "GeorgeD How close to Charlotte do you live?"---Within driving distance, though not within commuting distance. Why? Want to meet up? Are you female, cute, between 22 and 38? (I'm referring to age). If you don't fit that description assume I live in North Dakota.
nygalwaygirl: If these settlers arrived when the unemployment rate was 4% why the hell are they still there when it's 14%? The answer is obvious, but it appears too subtle for you. That is that they prefer living on Irish welfare (very generous compared to Poland etc.)-- perhaps supplementing it with under the counter work (pay no tax)-- than living unemployed in bleak Poznan or Danzig. A lot of them commute between Ireland and Poland etc., because air travel is quite cheap. Many claim Irish welfare benefit for children living in Poland etc., children who have never even been in Ireland, but they get welfare for them. And since the Irish authorities are lazy fools, the Eastern Europeans undoubtedly are claiming welfare for children who don't exist. The Irish--they're lazy, careless idiots who deserve everything bad that's coming to them. They're borrowing billions to pay welfare to frauds from all over the world, and they're borrowing hundreds of millions to teach English to children from Africa, Asia, Eastern Europe etc. And at the same time their young men and women are leaving their homeland in their tens of thousands.

George, your comments are kind of tiresome. The unemployment rate here is around 14%. The vast majority of immigrants who came to Ireland arrived when the unemployment rate was between 4 and 5%.

Emigration can be devastating, but I think on the whole Ireland will come out of this stronger What doesn't kill you makes you stronger. In the interim if someone wants to record those losses for posterity so be it.
This is ridiculous. Will they have a nice big wall with the names of all the Pakis, Poles and Punjabis who have settled Ireland in the past few years? How come those folks were able to find jobs? The Irish make me sick.
I hear you, cillowen. It's devastating!
