Global Irish Economic Forum to bring diaspora together

“The Forum will be the first time the entire Network has come together and I am looking forward to a frank and intensive exchange of ideas on the Government’s priorities for economic renewal, job creation and the restoration of Ireland’s reputation abroad,” Tánaiste Eamon Gilmore said in a statement on the forums website.

The first forum was held in September 2009 which aimed to explore how the Diaspora could contribute to Ireland’s economic recovery. As a result of this the Global Irish Network was established which is a network of influential Irish at home and abroad.

Topics to be discussed during the two-day conference include “Ireland: the Road to Recovery”, “Ireland’s image abroad”.

Bill Clinton will address the group on “Ireland and the Global Irish in the 21st Century”,

The forum will also launch WorldIrish.com, a new online community for Irish people around the globe.

I am assuming LoyalCitizen is refering to Bill Clinton's fee from the 'Washington Speakers Bureau'. I don't know, but I wouldn't be surprised if Bill Clinton is waiving his usual fee. I may be foolish but I believe Bill Clinton has a genuine interest in Ireland's fate. I find it amusing that Bertie Ahern is also a member of that organization, in the same league as president Clinton as he struts around the globe telling anyone who will listen, how he created the Celtic Tiger, ha,ha,ha,ha,ha Must be the Bass.
As Bill Clinton is going to be at the forum we are going to be fleeced again.
Increase opportunities for the children of the diaspora to attend college in Ireland at the same rate as others in the EU pay. This would bring cash into the universities and feed the economy with parents visiting probably once a year. Also there is a huge potential market in America for organic and non GMO products such as Irish butter, dairy and lamb if marketed in the right way. Whole Foods and others like it would be a good start.
For Ireland.the power of the diaspora outweighs the power of the European Union. There are 80 million descnded Irish. 38, 000,000 in the U.S. alone. However, the brilliant plan to take advantageof this is to sell pedigrees. Hobble an Irish retirement and hand the country over to Eastern Europeans. Dublin genius is smaller than a tea bag.
Bill Clinton appears to have a genuine interest in what happens in Ireland. Glad to see he wasn't just after the Irish American vote for himself and his wife.
