Award Winning actress Anjelica Huston has declined an invitation from The Horse and Carriage Association of New York City to visit their facility, after she made a call for the ban of the service.

“Ms. Huston has been badly misled about our industry and the care we give our beloved horses,” the Horse and Carriage Association said in a recent statement.

“The organizations that she has misguidedly aligned herself with have a long history of lying about the carriage horses and of having ulterior political motives,” it added

The Irish-American actress recently penned a letter to House Speaker Christine Quinn, in which she called for a ban on the horse drawn carriages.

The New York Daily News reported that the 'Smash' star wrote the letter on March 1 on behalf of PETA in support of Intro 86A, legislation to gradually phase-out the carriages and replace them with environmentally-sound classic cars.

“It’s surprising to me that a city known for its progressive spirit still allows this cruel and dangerous tourist trap,” Huston wrote.

“Several accidents over the past few months highlight the immense safety hazard and lack of regulation of this industry,” the letter continued.

“At the end of 2011, within just a couple of weeks, two horses collapsed in the middle of traffic and one nearly hit several taxis on 59th Street.”

In response, the Horse and Carriage Association sent Huston an invitation to their stables.

“Unfortunately, Ms. Huston has been badly misled about our industry and the care we give our beloved horses.  The organizations that she has misguidedly aligned herself with have a long history of lying about the carriage horses and of having ulterior political motives,” the statement added.

Huston’s publicist replied responded to the association’s invitation, stating, “Anjelica Huston's conversation on horse-drawn carriages is with Christine Quinn”.

The Horse and Carriage Association of New York City, Inc. is a non-profit organization chartered in 2000 to promote and protect New York City’s horse-drawn carriage industry, its horses and its history.

One doesn't have to visit the stable (which would be useless anyway, as it will be especially gussied up)to see that the industry is cruel to horses when the horses are collapsing and dying on the streets. Those accidents and deaths are what are known as facts.
People like her do not want to be confused by the facts.
What a shame that Ms. Huston has chosen to allow herself to be led by PETA, and has not been open-minded enough to accept this invitation issued to her on behalf of the HCANYC so she could meet real carriage horse owners, drivers and some of the horses themselves. This is her choice, and her loss. As a horse owner herself, she really should read up on PETA's stated goals regarding ALL horse ownership. This organization aims to try to eventually outlaw all horse ownership and all horse sports, not just carriage driving for hire.
Too bad. She might have actually learned something...
RU serious Fastest-Hollywood elite like her ,Baldwin ,Penn,Streisand don't "learn"-they instead tell us little people how to live because they are right!Always ! Honest!
I am an animal lover, big time. When I see PETA involved in any issue, more often than not, I oppose them. Angelica was mistaken to turn down the offer by NY Horse & Carriage Ass'n.She could have learned something other that PETA's doctrine. I understand she wants to close down the honey industry because the bee's work to hard!
