As residents on the east coast of the US continue to deal with the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, the Archbishop of New York, Cardinal Timothy Dolan, called on parishioners to attend mass and observe All Saints Day.
"We've got so much to pray for," the Catholic leader said in a statement.
"As we mourn our dead, pray for their families, and for those injured, and without homes. We also pray in thanksgiving for the heroic service of so many entrusted with our protection. Praise God that, once again, this community has united in selfless service to those in need."
Speaking about the devastation caused by Hurricane Sandy in Breezy Point, Queens, where over 80 homes were destroyed in a blaze, Dolan said: " I love Breezy Point, the Pastor out there is a very close friend."
"Our hearts are broken when you see the loss of life."
The Catholic leader called on people to remember those who are struggling after the storm.
"There are a few things that can happen in a tragedy," Cardinal Dolan warned.
"We can become selfish, we can become violent, we can be every person for themselves or we can pitch in, in solidarity and community to help one another and rescue one another."
The Cardinal plans to visit Staten Island and homeless shelters across the city over the coming days to speak to this who have been affected.

the cardinal says, "or we can pitch in, in solidarity and community to help one another and rescue one another." I'll believe he is sincere when he shuts down his lobbying efforts against women's equality in health care, against equal civil rights for gays and lesbians, and against full criminal court access for the victims of sexual abuse. Caring about the community, including larger and larger groups beyond the individual and the family in our sense of "We Americans," is at the very core of Christian thinking, and the cardinal can't seem to do that kind of thinking until houses burn down and Nature, too long ignored and abused, begins to destroy the material word we depend on. We need collective action against global warming and collective action to achieve political and economic equal opportunity. Those projects, not his petty misogynist and homophobic campaigns, should be the work of Christians in this world. Until the cardinal realizes that, his voice will be the noise described in 1 Corinthians: "Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal."

And what will the good Cardinal Dolan do on Staten Island ??? Beg for Money from the poor ? & give useless lips service to those in need. why not pitch in and really do some manual labor for a change or set up kitchens for people without Electricity or Fresh foods.we don't need any lip service form a over sized priest. get real father.
