IRA splinter group destroys its weapons

The INLA, a splinter IRA group, have destroyed their weapons, it has been confirmed.

The INLA killed 120 people during the Northern Irish conflict but announced recently they were stepping down and disbanding.

Now they have completed the decommissioning of their weapons and have stated they will continue their objectives by peaceful means.

The British government has given all paramilitary groups in Northern Ireland until February 14th to decommission. Recently the Ulster Defense Association also announced that they had decommissioned.

The INLA was looked on as one of the most vicious paramilitary groups at its height, and carried out several high profile murders.

They also battled allegations that many of their victims were innocent.

Their decommissioning is further good news for Northern Ireland, where developments last week mean that the power sharing Assembly will continue.
