The International Monetary Fund (IMF) had delayed its funding for Ireland after the government decided to put the package to a further vote of confidence  on Wednesday next.

International markets as well as the IMF reacted negatively to the Irish government move and there was strong criticism of the action
Most believed that the package was in place after the cost cutting budget by the current government was approved.

However, in a further step in what is seen as a political gambit to force the opposition parties to approve of the deal, the government decided to put the IMF package to a vote.

This however may now come back to haunt them.

The IMF statement read “The authorities have informed us that while parliamentary approval of the EU-IMF support package is not legally required, the Irish Government has put the motion before parliament to strengthen political support for the agreement,” the spokesman said.

“In deference to Ireland’s parliamentary process the IMF has decided to postpone consideration by its board of the proposed loan under the extended fund facility until after the debate.”

Fine Gael leader Enda Kenny expressed  deep concern “This is causing serious international concern . . . what are the implications for the agreement if the vote is lost?”

The Minister for Finance stated the bill would pass but last night a government backbencher, Mattie McGarth stated he was unlikely to vote for it causing further concern.

@thewatcher...That's the job..Vote for Sinn Fein..They are the lads who will sort them out.
As a British subject with a right to vote, I would rather vote for Adolf hitler than any member of most deceiptful so-called politicians in Fianna Fail any day. Despite the fact that it was Fianna Fail supported by Labour and Fine Gael; who murdered democracy in Ireland on 16th Oct 2002 when the people of Ireland exercised right, to vote NO in a referendum on Nice ---and were ordered to vote again. That is what we Brits fought very hard to end in Europe : its called Dictatorship Fianna Fail And their aforementioned supporters repeated the disgrace later in another referendum on Lisbon. Back on 1st. January, Finna Fail foist the Euro on the people of Ireland .Arrogantly, denying them their DEMOCRATIC RIGHT to decide for themselves. if they wanted the Euro or not. Dictatorship again. Now the prigs in "power" (they wouldn't get a job in London sweeping the streets) want us the Taxpayers (we don't put the people's money in private off-shore Banks) to pay for the debts of their rich gambler pals "the Bond holders" who gambled , got interest for a few years then lost.Tough! let the fat people like big blubbermouth pay their debts for them : Out of the millions they have creamed off the poor and certain idiots in Brussles who don't have the brains to come over and inspect our two lane no services so-called "Motorways" Remember Europe has been paying 80% of the cost and Ireland pays only 20%. So don't be fooled by "Nero" our Minister for transport when they boast about all the "Motorways" THEY built. To say nothing of Brown envelopes to pals for contracts. A Blind man has no problem "seeing through" lying Fianna Failers. I'll leave the country and go back to civilisation, befor I'll pay one damned cent for Fianna Fail pal gamblers. However, I'll wait to vote for Sinn Fein, People before Profit Alliance, every intelligent Independant who has nothing to do with the Fianna Fail three party gang. You wouldn't call the gormless Greens a party.
"Erin go Broke - rather than being complete slaves. ... Blood sucker politicians are hard to take and even look at knowing their rape and sell out to foreigners." ... Yes, Irish citizen's choices are rather simple: Take another bailout from the IMF, et al, with higher taxes and fewer jobs or go it alone with no new bailouts, steady to lower taxes = more take home for private sector workers, less for g'ment workers. IMOP: vote your personal pocket book.
Erin go Broke - rather than being complete slaves. Get out there and sow those praties - get thy army to clean up the scum that is a spreading cancer which terrorizes families across the country. Be a hero at home instead, and not be the saviour of the world going hither and thither as peace keepers. Blood sucker politicians are hard to take and even look at knowing their rape and sell out to foreigners.
