International Mother's Day in May is not observed in Ireland. Traditionally, Mother's are recognised on the first Sunday in Lent with Mothering Sunday. As emigrants sujected to the bombardment of advertising approaching International Mother's Day, we would send flowers and cards to our mothers in Ireland only to be rebuked for having missed the true Mothering Sunday much earlier in the year. Just proves the power of advertising (or lack thereof).

May God bless every woman blessed to bear a baby... May God bless every mother who raised a baby... May God bless every baby whose mother died in childbirth... May every baby who’s never known it’s natural mother for whatever reason... May every baby girl be a mother... The sons of this earth salute all women. May everybody have a good Mothers’ Day in the USA or wherever you are, every day.
