Mitt Romney now looks like a shoo-in for the GOP nomination after easily defeating his challengers in New Hampshire.
The Mitt appeared on stage with his perfect family to claim victory and to tell Barack Obama he was coming after him.
The crowd roared as he took repeated shots at the president and his handling of the economy.
His other rivals trailed in far behind him.
It is impossible to see any of them catching him?
What do you think? Can Mitt defeat Barack?
Let us know your thoughts and feelings below...

I suspect the Republicans are digging about among candidates who are unelectable; they have become so competitive about their social Taliban views that they are dogwhistling only at the weird gallery among Republicans and forgetting that the Presidency is a national institution requiring a national caucus. Every mad dogwhistle at the Taliban Republican or corkscrew christians is another small tick to the democratic engine for Obama's re-election. In truth it doesn't matter who the US President happens to be as no-one gets the White House unless they are owned by corporate America- but given a level playing field on corporate candidates it is certainly possible to lose the White House by appearing more fundamentalist than the Taliban.

Just to add to that post about the Romney ancestors moving to Mexico so they could stay married to their multiple wives. Apparantly the Mexicans thru them out and Romney plans on getting even. If I were a Mexican illegal alien living in the USA, I would leave now.

Obama's re-election is all but assured. The clowns are facing their final curtain call.

He made $250 million at Bain Capital.................. What do these sort of folks do - they buy up companies cheap, trash pension obligations, wiggle out of contracts already in place, cut wages , fire workers etc............. then sell (flip) the companies for hundreds of millions of $$$................. If you think the recession was bad and the middle class is getting the old shaft,..................... you may not have seen anything yet.

Mitt won't win the election. News reporters uncovered that Romney's Mormon great-grandfather, Miles Park Romney, fled the US in 1885 to Mexico to escape prosecution for practicing polygamy. More importantly, Mitt's tax plan would raise taxes on lower-income people to make it possible to cut even more taxes for the very rich. But give him a few days: He'll probably flip-flop on that position like all the rest.

I will be very happy when the Republicans finally pick their' leading' man. I am getting tired of listening to their endless posturing as to who is the most conservative amongst them and who can blow the most smoke in the name of the 'tea party'. They all want a small government with no regulation of big business. But let us continue to waste billions of dollars in maintaining and expanding our Military Supremacy. Who cares about our infrastructure- we have plenty of bridges and roads even if some become too dangerous to use. And don't worry about the millions of people who cannot afford health insurance, or are excluded by pre-existing conditions. Let them all go to the emergency room and so what if some of them die prematurely. I think the Republican Party is the Super Ego of the One Per centers and the American people will wake up and realize that putting one of them in the White House would be a terrible insult to the Ninety-nine per-centers.

The election can be bought, Obama is raising all sorts of money thus, the problem. The unions will buy the predicency as they see fit, the unions are solidily behind a democratic President. It is going to be really hard to vote in Nov.

acemaker the french tried that system and what followed was a period known as the "Reign of terror".If Romney is the choice he will not beat Obama,he's more likley to shoot himself in the foot. The two party system institutanalises professional politicians and politics becomes polarised. It's just like groundhog day.
ProudCanadian | Jan 11, 2012, 04:58 PM EST
First of all say it aint so. All the US needs is another George Bush. Secondly nicomax what have you got against women. I reallize that the Repulicans have some real morons for women running, but they have worse ones in men. I think that a women should be given a chance to be President as long as she isn't republican, they are to much War mungers, and finally acemaker I have been saying the same thing here in Canada, you are lucky you only have to parties. We have so many parties in Canada your next door neighour is probably a leader of one. I agree with you, partisian politics should be taken out and each region have representatives go in and work towards acheiving your needs. Just saying.

Romney's victory speech in New Hampshire about increasing our armed forces was purely political for the large block of retired veterans living in South Carolina.
MegK311 | Jan 11, 2012, 03:11 PM EST
SeamusMartin, Obama had two years when he had the backing of the congress and the senate and he got nothing done. He is very good at the blame game. The fact is he does not have the experience to be President. He should never have been elected. With regard to the present primaries I wish they would find a different way to go about nominating and voting for candidates. Only two of 50 states have voted and already we are being told by the media and the good old boys of the Republican party that the only one capable of beating Obama is Mit Romney. I want to have a say in the process but by the time we have our primary in California the whole process will be over and we wont have a say as most of the candidates will have dropped out. Mit is not my first choice but I will vote for anybody but Obama. We do not need a third party that would ensure Obama's re election.
lad1912 | Jan 11, 2012, 03:00 PM EST
Our founding fathers would throw up at the lack of quality running for President. Looks like we are going to get stuck with the world's only living mannequin.
acemaker | Jan 11, 2012, 02:45 PM EST
@SeamusMartin- The US does'nt need more parties, it needs to do away with all parties and let evry candidate run on his/her own. Do away with partisan polictics and get something done in Washington

ANYONE ---- could do a better job than Obama ! ! ! !
Selketre | Jan 11, 2012, 01:47 PM EST
As far as I'm concerned the only question before the American people in this election is,"WHO can beat Obama?!" His 4 years(15 mins) are up. I will be up at the crack of dawn to vote on election day and I will vote for whoever they run against him. Same thing I did when Carter ran against Reagan. I voted for Reagan- he at least espoused American values. I figured at least Reagan could follow a script- I voted for him both times he ran for President. I voted for him both times he ran for govenor of California. He took California out of the red and into the black. Sometimes the cure isn't pretty, but neccessary. The present President hasn't got a clue- he does not inspire confidence and I'm not a lemming. I've been a Democrat all my life who has voted Republican- I haven't seen the Democratic party run anyone I'd vote for in a very very loooong time. I think I might switch parties too. I sang "Take the Midnight Train to Georgia" all the way to and from the polls in 1980- I'll have to find an appropriate swan song for this one.

I waited to read all the other opinions before I added my two cents (Ameros) worth. There is no difference between Obama and Romney. They each work for the same "boss', and until the people of America decide to learn about the people who run this world and what their goals are, we are finished. It doesn't take a smart person to know that Ron Paul is our only chance to beat back this deliberate onslaught on our existence. Ron Paul is no doddering (notice the correct spelling)old man, believe me!
SeamusMartin | Jan 11, 2012, 01:17 PM EST
The US needs more political parties so they have to form coalitions and learn the give-and -take of compromise. Obama is not as bad as some would say, but the Republicans and some Demoshave tied his hands so very little has been done. AND Obama can't seem to garner support of Congress. Guess it is time for someone new. Romney is probably the guy, but Ron Paul, though a dottering old man) makes quite a bit of sense. Watch out Mitt if Paul goes third party, might = Obama win.

if elected president that's it for america
JBRAFTREE | Jan 11, 2012, 12:51 PM EST
I really believe we've had enough Obama forever. Let's give Mitt a shot.

Better than the alternative by a darnsite!
Nicomax | Jan 11, 2012, 12:33 PM EST
Since we are in the age of "American Idol", then you select the man, not a woman, who looks like what we expect a president to look like. Past performance, changing positions with impunity, and being a financial predator not withstanding.
joan1954 | Jan 11, 2012, 11:51 AM EST
Point is non of the political parties have any good candidates. The incumbant promised the moon and what do we have nothing. There needs to be a complete house cleaning in DC of everyone and start fresh with a clean slate. Mitt, well, let's just say that he doesn't carry the same baggage as Newt, Ron and the rest. I think in some ways he would be better than the incumbant.
SeamusMor | Jan 11, 2012, 11:18 AM EST
Barak Obama is a lot smarter than I am. He knew, even better than me, that one man cannot change the way business is done in Washington. He also knew that polls and focus groups showed that people were in favor of fundamental change, so that's what he promised. He was lying through his teeth when he said "Yes we can!" NO YOU DIDN'T! Romney can beat Obama in a debate, and in the election.
IAPRINCESS | Jan 11, 2012, 11:16 AM EST

maura5152 What are you talking about? What does our First Lady have to come clean about?
walleyeman | Jan 11, 2012, 10:03 AM EST
Let's hope so I know I will be working full time as a retred guy to defeat Obama. And for those of you who compare Romney to a toy or movie character I will take that guy over a cross between Erkel and the Jeffersons.
maura5152 | Jan 11, 2012, 09:55 AM EST
If our First Lady does not come clean and clear her name with the news media reports around Chicago, the President is in big trouble. We Irish all stick together and she may as well join us if her husband is to win.
jamieLM | Jan 11, 2012, 09:51 AM EST
Romney may be "bound" for the WH, but it doesn't mean, for sure, that he's going to get there. A 3rd candidate, like Ron Paul, my siphon off enough votes to re-elect Obama. Voters may view this election as an opportunity to vote for the "lesser of 2 or 3 evils."
carollover | Jan 11, 2012, 09:34 AM EST
Obama ain't perfect but I'll definitely take him over this smarmy guy who made a fortune eliminating working class jobs at Bain Capital. I don't think he'll get elected though because I think Ron Paul's running as a 3rd party candidate (Libertarian probably) and he'll get 20-25 per cent of the vote, and Obama wins with 40-45 %. Just like Clinton/Bush1/Perot in 1992. Every time I look at Romney, I see Greg Marmalade or Douglas C. Neidermeyer from Animal House.
TheOldPerfessor | Jan 11, 2012, 09:17 AM EST
Best Republican that money can buy.
hollabackgurl | Jan 11, 2012, 08:36 AM EST
He's Wall Streets man in Washington, isn't he? A grinning Ken doll that will say or do anything and sell every principle for the right price. Probably he'll fire us all.
