As Irish American congressman Rep. Peter King prepares for his next round of hearings on the the radicalization of the Muslim-American community, members of New York organizations expressed their opposition yesterday.

King, the Long Island congressman who heads the House Homeland Security Committee has schedules his latest hearing for today in Washington, which will focus on the radicalization in U.S. prisons. He has said he will call on several law enforcement experts to testify on recent examples of terrorist recruitment among inmates.

“This is a real concern; this is a real issue," King told the Associated Press after a press conference hosted by the Long Island Neighbors for American Values.

The group includes religious leaders and civic groups who maintain that King’s hearings are promoting negative stereotypes.

"Unfortunately, these people are living in denial," King said. "Al-Qaida is attempting to recruit in our country and it is a reality we cannot afford to hide from."

"If we found anyone in our community committing an act of terrorism, by the time the police got there the matter would be settled and there would be one less terrorist," he said.

Sister Jeanne Clark of Long Island, maintains she has served prison time for acts of disobedience, said King’s focus on prisons was misguided.

"Language is important," she said. "Prisoner, Muslim, radicalized terrorism. Saying these words together in a sentence instills fear and mistrust."

The next hearing after today’s will likely be held in July and will focus on reports of Americans joining al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula.

You started out with attacking Peter King, by implying you know better than he because you spent 16 WHOLE weeks in the middle east, the article does not mention the middle east and anyone with intelligence knows you can not discuss muslims purely based on 16 pitiful weeks in the middle east, muslims are from Asia, Africa, even muslim countries in Europe besides the middle east, and I have spent time in 3 muslim countries in Africa, middle east and europe, 3 and half years experience as opposed to your little 16 week holiday, you then try and bale out your pathetic excuse for post by, falsely accusing me of being an American who has never had a passport, then when that backfires on you, you resort to "oh your just a grunt who never left compound/barracks" again showing yuor total lack of knowledge as there were no compounds or barracks in either Chad or the Lib.........in other words son its past your bedtime, you better run of like a good little fellow......

While I am very much against stereotyping and scapegoating of minority communities, Congressman Peter King must have some inside information as head of Homeland Security which makes him suspect the radicalization of inmates by extremist religious elements within the US penal system. Would IC be highlighting such a scenario if it was happening to e.g the US Catholic community. I think not

I have mariner Libya in fact found them to be friendly and courteous as I did in Egypt and the Emirates,but then I was not a a bigoted American telling the world how better off we are than you.People will respect you as you respect them regardless of race.
