Google’s initiative Street View has already taken to the streets of Dublin to snap up images for the new concept.

Google has described the Street View applications as being the last zoom layer on the map. Once you have zoomed completely in on Google maps street view allows you to virtually stand on the street and take everything in.

Street View was launched in May 2007 and initially coverage was limited to just five U.S. cities but has since expanded to a dozen countries around the world. When it was first launched a van was used to capture images.

The Trike is the newest vehicle to be added to the Google fleet. They describe the device as a 3-wheeled tricycle in a device reminiscent of an ice cream cart. It allows them to capture images in areas not accessible to cars.

The custom made tricycle will begin touring Ireland this week as it snaps up street level images of popular tourist attractions.

Locations filmed by the trike in Dublin will include Dublin Zoo and the new Aviva Stadium. Other hotspots include Dublin Castle, the Phoenix Park, St Stephen's Green, Iveagh Gardens and the Fota Wildlife Park in Cork.

Google has assured data protection advocates that all faces and car registration number plates will be blurred.
