Controversial radio and TV show host Glenn Beck has launched a new conservative news and opinion website called The Blaze that he says will be a place where you can find 'breaking news, insightful opinions and engaging videos about the stories that matter most.'

The new service will tilt rightward as does Beck's current employer, the Fox News channel.

Beck said he was frustrated with the way the national news media covered his 'Restoring Honor' rally this weekend. In a scathing attack on Slate.com, pundit Christopher Hitchens wrote: 'Glenn Beck's rally was large, vague, moist, and undirected — the Waterworld of white self-pity.'

Beck, who is perhaps angling for a media mogul role like his employer Rupert Murdoch, was incensed by the media's disrespect.

'Too many times we see mainstream media outlets distorting facts to fit rigid agendas,' he wrote on The Blaze. 'Not that you've ever heard me complain about the media before. Okay, maybe once or twice. But there comes a time when you have to stop complaining and do something. And so we decided to hire some actual journalists to launch a new website.'

In 2009, Beck is reported to have earned $32 million through a mix of books, radio, TV, digital media, and speaking fees.

If Glenn Beck's "tilt rightward as does his employer Fox News" is the worst thing he is doing, then more power to Him. Most of the other news channels are somewhat or maybe a lot leftward, so Fox is merely helping balance out the picture. BTW, Fox News is the leading news channel, watched by more Americans than most of the others combined. Also, if he has earned $32 million, more power to him. That is capitalism, not socialism, in action.

People are desperate to have reality explained to them in a way they can understand. Glenn Beck uses a blackboard and chalk to analyze complicated issues and he seems to maintain an audience. In that sense, more power to him.

The downside is that Beck's "explanations" are nonsense, as is everything else on Fox News. If he were upgrading American political discourse, he'd actually be performing a service. However, spreading falsehoods is not really helpful.

I thought his "Call to Prayer" speech was artful. Nobody expects him to do anything challenging, and he doesn't disappoint. I think he's Fred Rogers for grownups.

Glen Beck is a propagandist, pure and simple. His "news" outlet will be one-sided, angry, aimed at stirring up people to shout, not talk. He is a slick Hitler and has the capacity to forge his own brown shirts. Truth? He makes it up.

Maloney ...The real question is what are you going to do when you run to the polls this November and vote back into office the same people who "actually and factually" brought America to the brink of economic collapse, lied their way into the war in Iraq, and put it all on credit cards for future generations? And BTW, your choice of words speaks volumes about you, and I'm really happy the GOP has you as one of their own. Keep blogging all that love and light that Beck followers are supposed to represent(gag).

How can you understand the book by only reading the cliffnotes? Really a great opener, almost as original as your screen name, hollabackgurl (OMG, is this Gwen?). Come on, seriously? Beck is living the American dream.... From having nothing, to having everything from individual hard work and due diligence. All that hate is gonna eat you up. Some of you may want to read a history book and put down your People magazine! God Bless Capitalism!

Has anyone here who thinks Beck is just a nasty, used to be alchohal/ drug abuser, selfserving man, realize just what he has done? He got past his own ego and realized the world doesn not REVOLVE around him. Nor does the world " OWE " him anything. He works for what he wants most in his life The event was held FOR the children whose parents lost their lives in the military. The children will benefit the most because of the scholarships the donations will bring about. True, Beck can be a bit over the top - but he does bring FACT based items to the table. Who amongst the "other" "news/ journalists" ( and that last word is laughable ) to our homes? Get over yourselves. The TRUTH will set ye free.

Beck artfully, speaks out of both sides of his mouth. Did you ever hear Beck's radio show? No Christian love there; Just smear, bigotry, inferred paranoia "about a regime" and anything else that will raise the ratings, along with his special brand of paranoia.

Mr. Beck had with him on the podium a minister who called the Catholic church a "whore". How can he be promoting peace and love (is he a hippie now?) when he has a hate monger like that on his team?

Attack, attack. Now Beck has a way to combat the New York Times. You don't have to agree with him. But he (unlike many of you who are attacking him personally) has a large following. If he is not deserving of this following he will lose it just like President Obama has lost his following.

Beck is a flim-flam man with aspirations of becoming a demagogue. He is a member of a cult of Christianity that is famous for it's adherents with messiah complexes. I am glad his followers have a place to spout off they can truly call their own, perhaps they will stop bothering objective individuals who are reading serious news items with their reverse-discrimination poor meisms. Wonder if Beck has an endorsement from vick's vapor rub to finance the site?
