President of Sinn Fein Gerry Adams has resigned from Westminster. This move came after Irish Prime Minster Brian Cowen confirmed that a general election would take place on March 11.
Adams plans to stand in County Louth. He has already stepped down from his Northern Ireland Assembly seat in West Belfast.
Adams was first elected to Parliament in 1983. He held the seat at last year’s election with 71.1 percent of the vote. He has been replaced by former hunger striker, Pat Sheehan.
Although he held a seat in Parliament for 22 years, he never stepped foot in the Commons chamber.

WHEN ELECTED (Sir?) Gerry, having RETAINED his Westminster Seat should then refuse to take the Oath 'President' Mary McAleese on the grounds that she is a British Subject. They could then go on holidays to the Caymen Islands together howling with laughter at the gullible British and Irish electorate, and counting all the vast sums of money they have extorted from them!

Adams has resigned his commons seat. Falls is typically behind the times.Your blogs on all sites have the one central theme, a brow beaten obsequious mea culpa excuse for an Irishman.

he'll bring a new intrepretation of sleaze with him as he will now hold a seat in both the house of commons & the dail if he wins in louth, after years of war visited by his cohorts in the north, if this man cannot decide who he is, what hope for republicans anywhere.
he has no economic nouse, marxist politics won't work in a state that has no inate heavy industry to nationalise - after all he cannot even do that to the banks, Biffo beat him to that!

Yes, Sinn Fein has an opportunity if they get back to traditional values of Irish nationalism and republicanism.

I agree with that kurt.Sinn Fein need to play their cards right..If they can get 14 or 15 seats,They might then be able to break out and reach beyond its traditional heartlands.Labour needs to mess up..but that seems unlikely. FG and Labour are been given a poisoned chalice if they get in..The way things are going, they surely will.

Sinn Fein needs to distance itself from Marxism - a poisonous materialist doctrine which is just as toxic as anglo mass consumerism. Both are antithetical to nationalism.

Why don't Sinn Fein sell T-shirts with the logo: SUPPORT MASS IMMIGRATION AND THE SETTLEMENT OF IRELAND BY FOREIGNERS. See how well those T-shirts sell!

Pilib04 - SF have ‘a real alternative plan for economic recovery’? What is it and how will it work? Is it credible that SF, alone amongst political parties have found a ‘pain free’ way out of the mess? If so, why is there nothing about it on their website? So many questions, so few answers.

Sinn Fein is leading the opposition to the sellout Financial Bill being forced through the Dail by the Greens and FF. Even Labour and FG are leaning towards support for this massive giveaway to the banks. Sinn Fein has called for immediate dissolution of the Dail and new elections.
According to Irish American Information Service, "Sinn Féin has always said that we are opposed to this
Finance Bill, to Budget 2011 and to the sell-out IMF/EU
deal. There is no question of us supporting this Finance
Bill in the Dáil next week or any week. We are not part of
the Consensus for Cuts and we have put forward a real
alternative plan for economic recovery."
Sinn Fein states further that "The instability must be brought to end. It appears that there is to be grubby deal between the establishment parties Fianna Fáil, Fine Gael, Labour and the Greens to get the Finance Bill through before a the general election."

londonirishtom..What party in Ireland at the moment have a solution to get us out of this mess.SF policies can't be any worst then those of FG and FF. Do you think SF would have shafted the Irish people like FF did? So they sell these items to the working class young people who seem to like these things. They instill a bit of who we are as a nation, after all it is our history. These items are a little protest against the powers that be.But Tom..I'm not worried about these kids..I'm worried about what FG and FF will do next..They are the power in this country. The huge cuts in public spending is to pay the gambling losses of the Rich in Europe and elsewhere. Who can well afford to take the hit anyway. But in real terms health cuts ect will cost the life's of the weakest in our society..again!!We need a party who are strong enough and who will have the guts to stand up to FF and FG. Sinn Fein is the only party who will do that, or try to do that. On the selling of T Shirts on the GF Agreement..It was a compromise and to bring the Unionist's on board on any compromise has got to be a good one..Sinn Fein are still trying to keep the RIRA from getting out of control..To sell T Shirts on the GF Agreement.Sinn fein would lose all credibility with the RIRA. Sinn Fein have to go to Stormont..The Unionist's won't do business anywhere else. Tom..I'm a wealthy guy so that makes me and my family immune to any suffering in real terms. If the government take 50 grand a year more from me.It won't make a bit of difference to my life. But 5 grand a year will to those who can't afford it. That is why I'm a Sinn Fein supporter.I'm a business man and when i am in "business mode" I know how to exploit the Capitalist system and it's convenient loop holes for the stinking rich ...That's why i want Sinn Fein in Government. It's not loop holes anymore, they are not even bothering to cover up the theft now.

Sirpeter, of course SF are free to sell what ever they wish. I visited their site to check out on their current policies, but there was next to nothing on these. I was surprised that the items quoted are their ‘best-sellers’, but I suppose that speaks volumes about the mindset of their supporters. Why are they not selling T Shirts on the GF Agreement, or their presence in Stormont?
