George Zimmerman, the accused in the case of the murder of Trayvon Martin, is concerned for the safety of his wife Shellie, who has been arrested for lying about their household finances in court.

Shellie Zimmerman (25) was arrested on Tuesday for lying during Zimmerman’s bond hearing in April. Prosecutor Angela Corey issued a warrant for one count of perjury saying she lied under oath.

According to AP she was “charged with perjury, a third-degree felony that is punishable by up to five years in prison and a $5,000 fine.” She has been released from jail on a $1,000 bond.

Her husband is charged with the second degree murder of 17-year-old George Zimmerman who was shot in Florida in February.

Zimmerman’s attorney, Irish American Mark O’Mara, expressed his concern for the safety of his wife on Tuesday evening. As the defense team begins to build their case, both Zimmerman and O’Mara have received death threats.

Speaking to the local news WFTV, O’Mara said he and his client are both concerned about Shellie. O’Mara is also angry that the prosecutors never informed him about the arrest. He said he only heard of her incarceration after she had posted bail.

He told WFTV "You know, I am just disappointed at the state that they did not feel the need to at least offer me that professional courtesy."

The warrant for the arrest states that Shellie Zimmerman denied any knowledge of her husband’s PayPal account, which he set up to pay for his defense. However, Shellie transferred more than $74,000 from his account into hers before the April hearing.

The Orlando Sentinel have reported that in two weeks, information on what the accused told police on the night of the shooting of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin will be released.

On Tuesday, Judge Kenneth Lester granted, in part, a motion filed by several media companies to have evidence in the case released that had previously been withheld from the public.

The case’s next hearing will be 29th June, for Zimmerman’s second bond hearing.
