Well, having 'culled' the present generation of immigrants with 2 unnecessary wars he can afford to advise concessions.
@Seanmor - you make some very valid points. It's not fair that the U.S. demands that some immigrants must follow all the rules to gain citizenship and others don't have to follow any of the rules and are still provided with all the benefits of citizenship. Talk about a double standard.
The former President reminds us that "America is an nation of immigrants" and he also speaks of "the contributions of immgrants". But he places ALL IMMIGRANTS in the same category, which is very offensive to those of us who came here in full complience with the U.S. immigrations laws. For those ov us who arrived here prior to 1975, complience including for the military draft, and many of us HONORABLY served in the nation's defense forces. We all spoke English, worked hard and paid taxes. Bush does NOT mebntion ILLEGAL ALIENS who continuously violate our laws by living here unlawfully. Bush seems to suggest that the 12 million illegals now her, the vast majority of whom entered thru the southern border, should be handsomely rewarded for flagrantly violating U.S. laws and heavily burdening loyal, law-abiding, tax-paying citizens by forcing us to provide these unwelcome foreigners with bilingual teachers, free health care and countless other benefits.
